4. Author: veteraneastender Date: Fri 25th Oct 2024. 11:39 More sad news. A really fine player and great servant to DAFC - saw him play for the club many times........the pinnacle of his Pars career of course was the 1968 cup final. He was with Celtic when they won a whean of trophies and was on the subs bench for the 1970 European Cup Final which reflects the level at which he played. R.I.P. Reply |

6. Author: parfection Date: Fri 25th Oct 2024. 11:47 This is sad news indeed. Back in the day he used to date our neighbour’s daughter. My dad gave him our 1965 cup final programme and he brought it back signed by every player. I have it to this day. RIP Tommy. Reply |
7. Author: OzPar Date: Fri 25th Oct 2024. 11:50 My deepest sympathies to Tommy`s family, his brother Willie, Roy, Alex, and the players left from that great 1960s side. Tommy was a class act, and I am sure his loss will be equally felt by players and fans at Celtic, where he was also held in the highest regard. Reply |

11. Author: GG Riva Date: Fri 25th Oct 2024. 15:32 Very saddened to learn this. The Callaghan brothers were regular first picks in those wonderful Pars teams in the 60s. Wee Willie was a fast, tenacious fullback, while his much taller wee brother had a long, loping stride with which he glided past opponents and pushed his teammates forward at every opportunity. George Farm decided he didn`t like the Callaghans and told them so, in no uncertain terms, in front of the all the other players. Both players submitted a transfer request. Tommy`s was granted, Willie`s was refused. When Jock Stein found out, he wasted no time in taking "Tid" to Parkhead, where he quickly established himself in the midfield of their 9-in-row team. RIP. 12. Author: AdamAntsParsStripe Date: Fri 25th Oct 2024. 16:25 I am too young to know the 60’s but as any ardent Pars fan should, I researched the rich history of DAFC as a kid and the glorious 60’s were full of names like Melrose, Charlie Dickson, Connaghan, Paton and the Callaghan brothers etc repeatedly. I think these older players were grateful new generations of fans knew who they were and what they achieved with the club. Tommy went on to have a really good career with Celtic and is fondly remember there as well as DAFC RIP Tommy. Zwei Pints Bier und ein Päckchen Chips bitte Reply |

14. Author: Townsvillepar Date: Sat 26th Oct 2024. 01:55 One of my favourite players and a very classy player. Tid was definitely one of the best players of that time. I remember I was very disappointed when he went to Celtic. Condolences to his family. RIP Reply |

16. Author: GG Riva Date: Sun 27th Oct 2024. 18:00 This was sent to me by a Celtic fan pal of mine. He freely admits he didn`t rate TC, along with large swathes of his fellow fans. Just goes to show that many fans wouldn`t know a good footballer from a plumber - no disrespect to plumbers intended. 🙂 https://x.com/celticstarmag/status/1850178407356629456?s=09 Not your average Sunday League player. 17. Author: veteraneastender Date: Mon 28th Oct 2024. 11:02 Correct GG - sections of the Parkhead support were indifferent (for want of a better word) towards Tommy Callaghan. A couple of family friends were Celtic fans and their general opinion was that he was often inconsistent. Part of the problem I think was that he was not Bertie Auld, a key player in the Celtic team of that era although moving towards the end of his career - and that Big Jock also had George Connelly, a potential superstar..... if he could stay on the straight and narrow.
