I was too far away to hear clearly what they were singing and I presumed their anger was directed at the ref. If it was directed at Tobi, it shows how ignorant and clueless they are. A Fenian is an Irish Catholic. Tobi is English, born in London of Nigerian descent. He may or may not be a Catholic. What does it matter? I`ve been privileged to meet him and he`s a smashing lad - some size, too. I had a crick in my neck looking up to him. 😀 I wouldn`t have thought Celtic asked him about his religion or country of birth when they signed him. More than 300 years on and people are still hanging on to this hateful crap. 😔  Not your average Sunday League player. Reply |

I just googled this and found out that there are two distinct ethnic groups in Nigeria IGBO and Yoruba and there's no love lost between them. | 18. Author: Paralex Date: Sun 17th Nov 2024. 21:57 I would hazard a guess, GG, that Tobi is a Yoruba. Most Nigerians I meet in Scotland now are Yorubas. My next door neighbour in Glasgow was an Igbo, (pronounced eebo). But the Igbos and Yorubas, I know, are best of friends. Young Tobi is turning out to be a great signing (James has made one or two you know). Only yesterday, I was talking to a Yoruba who was acting as a steward in the Norrie. They always smile when I ask if they are Igbo or Yoruba. Maybe not as potentially unsettling as asking a Scot if they are Catholic or Protestant. There are many other ethnic groups in Nigeria`s population of over 200 million but out of the several hundred I have met in Scotland, only one or two have been from a group other than Igbo or Yoruba.
