| 4. Author: Playup_Pompey Date: Tue 4th Mar 2025. 14:48 Dunfermline travelled to Rugby Park seeking a win that would take them above the hosts in the SPFL Reserve League table. It was the usual mix of youth and experience that Dunfermline fielded against a Kilmarnock team that included well known names such as Gary Mackay-Stevens, Innes Cameron and Matty Kennedy beside first team regulars like Liam Donnelly and Calvin Ramsay. Jay Hogarth should have been the first keeper into serious action but hesitancy in front of goal let the home side down. It was Killie’s Robby McCrorie who has to make the first important save blocking a good Taylor Sutherland chance in 12th minute. Kilmarnock did score however from a relatively simple pass from Kennedy on the right side of the Pars box where DONNELLY slotted home all too comfortably. 1-0 Dunfermline had to contend with a great deal of Kilmarnock possession and sorties upfield were restricted to one Michael O’Halloran run and cross that McCrorie held and a free kick fired over the top from Josh Cooper. A 32nd minute chip through the middle by Omar Taylor-Clarke brought McCrorie out his box to clear the threat. Five minutes from the break a surging run through the middle by Sutherland set up Cooper for a shot that was deflected narrowly over McCrorie’s goal. Two corners followed but Killie cleared and the Pars then survived a stabbed shot from Mackay-Stevens close in that remarkably cleared the bar. Half time: Kilmarnock 1 Dunfermline 0 Reply |

An O’Halloran cross created an early chance for the Fifers but Ruari Ellis stepped in to defend then in 48th minute Sutherland had the ball in the net but he was flagged for offside. Cooper lofted over a 50th minute corner from the left, Donnelly headed clear and Craig Clay met the clearance but was off target with his shot from 25 yards out. From 25 yards out, Cooper smashed a snapshot narrowly wide three minutes later. Then when Sutherland was held back by Tom Wilson-Brown the Fifers had the chance from a free kick 24 yards out on the left side. Cooper and Chalmers took charge with Cooper receiving the tap back to blast a shot that the keeper held. John McLaughlan wrung the changes on the hour mark withdrawing Michael O’Halloran, Andrew Tod and Josh Cooper to introduce James Gordon, Lucas Fyfe and Mark Beveridge. The goal that Dunfermline certainly merited from their second half play duly arrived in 64 minutes. A Joe Chalmers pass played SUTHERLAND into the Killie box and he rounded the keeper to equalise. 1-1 Reply |

| 10. Author: Playup_Pompey Date: Tue 4th Mar 2025. 16:00 From a Ramsay cross, Hogarth falling backwards he tipped an awkward Cameron header over his crossbar two minutes later. Kilmarnock responded trying to get back ahead while Dunfermline looked dangerous on the break. Five minutes from end however a penetrating run up the left by sub Aaron Brown led to a crossed ball that CAMERON turned into the Pars net. 2-1 Dunfermline were not to be allowed back into the game and Killie finished the game with their visitors pinned back. It was a disappointing end to a match in which Dunfermline had really come on to a game against the Premier League club. Reply |

Obviously, they’ve got a lot of experience playing. They’ve no game at the weekend, so they had a lot of first-teamers playing. We had a balanced side but in the first half we competed well, but we lost the goal. Then we got them in at half-time to say, look, I want you to pass the ball, play out from the back. We were kicking it too long at times. Once we tweaked that after half-time, when we’d said, look, we need to build, we need to play. Then we controlled the game. We got a good equaliser through Taylor (Sutherland), a good forward pass. There was only one team then I thought was going to go on and win it. It was us.`` And on on-loan keeper Jay Hogarth - “He wanted to kick a lot today and I said to him at half-time, we wanted to build the play. He took that on board and we started to build in the second half. I don’t think he was troubled in the second half, apart from a couple of corner kicks. That was down to us dominating the possession, so that was pleasing.” Reply |
