That said, had we even attempted to retain a bit of possession from KO, we might have avoided the same sequence of events that led to the first goal. How you start these games is really important. 5. Author: fcda Date: Sat 23rd Aug 2025. 13:00 My take on this, given that so many teams do this, is that generally there must be some benefit. If the team gets forward and puts pressure on the full back, most likely he will put it out for a throw. Result: attacking throw in the opposition half. Even if it`s over hit and goes out, you can apply pressure to the throw in. If you look at the setup objectively at kick off, the opposition have 11 players behind the ball, in their own half (with all your players in your own half), so it`s actually quite a difficult position to advance from.
