Goalkeeper Billy Terrell has returned to training and could feature, while wing-back Shea Kearney is a doubt with what appears to be bone bruising. Striker Chris Kane is unlikely to be available to face his former club as he continues to recover from a calf problem, with Neil hoping he’ll return after the international break. “Chris can’t make it, he’s having too much discomfort. It could be a neural thing, a bit of nerve pain he’s feeling as well. Those are something that need a bit of time. I’m pretty sure he’ll be fit for a couple of weeks’ time.”

On the longer-term absentees, the manager provided positive updates on Josh Cooper, Zak Rudden and Kyle Benedictus. “Zak and Bene are both doing really well in their rehab. I think it’s four or five weeks now for Zak. With the international break coming up, maybe towards the end of the month, we could be looking at him coming back into the fold to train anyway. Josh had the surgery two weeks ago now, so we’re looking at maybe another two or three weeks for him. He could be on a similar timescale to Zak, which would be great news for us, having those three back.”

The return of Billy Terrell to training gives the management a selection decision between the posts, with Deniz Mehmet having impressed in Friday’s clean sheet. “We’ll give it some consideration. It’s funny, despite all the comings and goings with the goalkeepers, seemingly we’ve got the best clean sheet record in the league, so we’ve got to take some sort of satisfaction from that somehow. Deniz did everything that he was asked to do on Friday night. He did great in the one-on-one in the second half, he made a great save there, so he’s not out of my thinking at all.”

Slowly running out of patience with Chris Kane and his calf.

If he can’t keep up with what takes to be a full time player at a decent level this season, maybe he should consider doing what Craig Wighton done, drop to part time and if that don’t work, time to hang up the boots.

Would seriously consider his future with the club once his contract expires at the end of this season.

I very much doubt Chris will be offered a new deal.
Last season we really depended on him being available but no more.
I’m certainly not having a go at him for being injured.
He was signed knowing this so it’s not like he’s cheated us.
I’m still a big fan of his when playing.

It’s a chronic issue that can’t be fixed, we knew that when we signed him. It’s nothing to do with training or game load, just happens out of the blue.

Chris Kane is by far the best player we have on the books, it`s just a real shame about his injury issues. Imagine we had the benefit of him being fully fit and playing 90 minutes each week in this team, we`d be Premiership bound

I definitely wouldn`t be giving him a new contract unless it was pay as you play deal, he`s chocolate

Certain to be his last season with us and possibly his last as a full time pro unless the issue he has miraculously disappears.
Hopefully we will see more of him in the second half of the season.

One thing to remember, if it wasn’t for his goals last season we would be playing in the seaside league..

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Why the need for the insult. We all know his issues.
Pay per play sounds right

Ability wise Kane may be the best player at the club, but wish people would stop saying it. Ability only gets you so far, and if you can’t then play, consistently, as footballer because of a recurring injury, then they aren’t good enough. Football is 50% ability, 50% fitness/durability.

It may sound harsh, and folk will most likely disagree, but thats why we have been lumbered in the lower leagues for so long - too sentimental.

Chris Kane scored a few vital goals last season. He is obviously getting older and carrying injuries but I still see him as a vital part of the season

When he does play, he really puts himself about, very physical, covers lots of ground, does loads of chasing. Defenders know they`ve been in a game when they are up against him.

Maybe he needs to change that style of play, to protect himself more. If he perhaps just played the role of penalty box striker, that might help. Teams should be built to supply a finisher like him

Although NL says Kearney is a doubt he has been included in the NI under-21 squad for matches next Thursday and the following Tuesday. It seems odd to release a player for international duty if he is a doubt for a club game. Mason Munn and ex-Par loanee Tommy Fogarty (who is now on loan at National League side Boston United) are also in their squad.

Kearney not in squad today - could be that NI will assess his injury status when he joins up?
