The Dunfermline boss is facing a possible touchline ban after being served with a notice of complaint by the governing body last month. Lennon is accused of breaching the SFA’s rules following his comments criticising referee Duncan Nicolson and his assistants in the 3-2 defeat to Ross County on October 25.The Pars manager was deeply scathing of the whistler’s display, saying he was ‘out of his depth’ and ‘incompetent’. Lennon felt Nicolson’s decisions or failure to act led to two of County’s goals, whilst also missing a potential red card for home defender Declan Gallagher. In addition, the Northern Irishman claimed one of Nicolson’s assistants had made a ‘derogatory comment’ to one of the Dunfermline backroom team during the match. His remarks are alleged to have contravened rule 72, which says that no-one ‘under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA’ can ‘criticise the decision(s) and/or performance(s) of any or all match official(s) in such a way as to indicate bias or incompetence on the part of such match official. or make remarks about such match official(s) which impinge on his character’. The scale of sanctions set out in the 2025/26 judicial panel protocol recommend a four-match suspension for a lower-end offence, rising to an eight-game ban at the top end. Lennon has already been in trouble with the SFA this season, sitting out the recent 1-0 win over Morton after picking up three yellow cards.` Reply |
| 2. Author: GG Riva Date: Thu 4th Dec 2025. 08:10 Sounds very much like a touchline ban will be meted out. Lennon has clearly contravened the SFA`s rules. The fact that his comments are indisputably true will not be taken into consideration. 🙄 ![]() Not your average Sunday League player. Reply |

| 4. Author: Athletico Date: Thu 4th Dec 2025. 09:30 Utterly inept display that day, for both sides. His case might have been helped if his opposite number had also questioned the display, but nope - he won so he doesn`t care, he`s more interested in taking and celebrating his win. As is his right. Whereas NL calls out referees win, lose or draw, which is something that I massively respect about him. We will only really see a change if coaches/managers band together, and back each other up rather than think about self preservation. Reply |
| 5. Author: king lad Date: Thu 4th Dec 2025. 10:42 I wonder if the official who made the comments to the Pars staff will be sanctioned? Or has the referee Nicolson who has looked extremely poor, has he been demoted due to his performances? I understand why the rules are in place and I think Lennon should face punishment for his comments. However, at the same time, there needs to be an understanding from the SFA that such refereeing performances and attitude towards the coaching staff shouldn`t be tolerated either. Reply |

| 13. Author: par_33 Date: Thu 4th Dec 2025. 17:41 Absolutely out of order from the SFA, already served 1 game touchline ban initially for this case. Whether NL broke conduct or rules etc. Surely the SFA have to take into account the incompetence of their officials. Lennon said he was satisfied with the outcome after speaking to Willie Collum about all said incidents in the County game, so that says to me WC held his hands up and admitted the referees decisions weren’t correct. A couple of games might’ve been justified but this is farcical. Reply |

Author: GJS93 Date: Thu 4th Dec 2025. 17:55 "already served 1 game touchline ban initially for this case" he got a yellow card in that County game but the 1 game ban was for 3 yellow cards, nothing to do with the post match comments. he was always going to get a ban for what he said, i thought it was going to be a couple with a couple suspended but obviously not. only plus point is one of them will be for the cup game on Tuesday night. | 19. Author: Jeffery Date: Thu 4th Dec 2025. 18:12 Here`s the Copilot transcript of what he said post match on the YouTube video. He`s not wrong. You`re just not allowed to say it:- Neil defeat in Dingwall here. What’s your overall thoughts on the game? Well, the referee cost us the game. It’s as simple as that. We got off to a poor start, no question. I think there’s a foul on Nuri for the first goal, but the second goal came from Nuru losing concentration, so we were two down with a long way to go. Eventually we got a foothold in the game, scored before halftime, and then another goal to put us in the ascendancy. The free kick he gave against Jerry was not a free kick, and it led to their third goal. Gallagher should have been sent off for an elbow straight into Matt Todd’s face. This is the second time this referee has officiated us this year. He didn’t give a clear penalty on Chris Kane which cost us points against Partick Thistle, and his decisions have definitely cost us the game today. At times we should have defended better, but we played well, showed a lot of character, and scored two very good goals. The referees at this level are embarrassing, to tell you the truth. I don’t think I’ve been as angry with a referee for a long time. We will be reporting this to the head of referees, but whether we get any comeback from it is another matter. The assistant linesman also said something really disparaging to my first-team coach, something I’ve never heard in 40 years of football. Totally unprofessional. As a club and as a group, we are not happy. It’s unacceptable. After losing those two goals early on, it would have been easy for the players to fold, but their reaction and the goal before halftime gave us a lift going into the break. That said, I wasn’t pleased with the way we played in the first half. We were too passive, not quick enough with the ball, and didn’t get a corner until the 27th minute, which is not like us at all. Some of the players have probably never been in a game like this against hardened professionals who know what they’re doing. We got a break before halftime, then changed things in the second half and looked really good. Even at the end, we had a free kick we should have done better with and a great chance at the far post. The character of the team is there, but we need to defend better. Hopefully it’s a one-off, but we must play better in the first half. In the second half, we got the ball down and created a lot more chances. We unquestionably deserved at least a point today. But when decisions like that go against you, what chance have you got? I didn’t think our front two played particularly well in the first half, which is a problem because that’s a big part of how we want to play. We didn’t hold enough possession. The pitch was beautiful, conditions were good, so there’s no excuse. We let half an hour of the game slip away, but the rest of the match was very good. Over 500 Pars fans were here today. My message to them is that you saw the character in the team. We never say die. As I said last week, it’s step by step. This was a step backwards, but for some players a real learning experience. We’re disappointed to lose, but we can’t thank the fans enough for their support and the miles they traveled to see us today. We’ll be galvanized for Friday. Reply |

Thing is, it’s a daily, let alone weekly conversation at all levels that refs are just not good enough and incompetent. Problem is the SFA will stick their fingers in their ears and shove their heads so far into the sand they will pop out in Sydney. Nothing will change. Reply |
