Author: wee eck Date: Wed 31st Dec 2025. 13:34 More abuse directed at a chairman and his family unfortunately - Greenock Morton chairman John Laird has stood down from the club due to online abuse and threats towards him and his family. Mr Laird, who has been associated with the club for more than four decades, said that criticism which was originally about football matters had descended into personal attacks. He added that he was "deeply disappointed" to be leaving the club in such a way and was leaving with immediate effect. The news comes two weeks after Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell announced he was standing down due to the amount of abuse and threats he had received. Reply |
| 2. Author: GG Riva Date: Wed 31st Dec 2025. 18:43 Can`t blame him, but coming hard on the heels of Lawwell`s departure from Celtic, it may encourage fans of other clubs to do the same. Author: twin par Date: Wed 31st Dec 2025. 19:29 Agree Riva.Nobody or their families,should be subjected to any sort of abuse.I can never get my head round ,why people can be so vindictive.The guy is only trying to do his best for his club,most of the time,for no cash reward.People forget, that they are also supporters as well.Some folk,need to have a good look at themselves. | 4. Author: Jeffery Date: Thu 1st Jan 2026. 10:03 I don`t know what abuse he`s had but he`s had a mountain of pretty fair sounding criticism over the last few years. If some has strayed over the line then it should be condemned. I do wonder if it might be a bit like when Stuart Kettlewell left Motherwell though - accusations of `abuse` with nothing to show other than `criticism`? Off the top of my head on Laird:- - There have been questions about fan ownership, his relationship with the investors, how many seats fans have on the board, with him seeming to appoint himself as chairman. - A transfer embargo the fans and manager were unaware of because of an admin issue around an email address. - The WhatsApp voice note a few months ago, which although disputed later (possibly with a threat of legal action), was incredibly damning of Laird. - Long standing manager Dougie Imrie leaves recently and one of the first things he says at Rovers is along the lines of, `it is nice to feel wanted...`. Their inability so far to appoint a successor to Imrie may suggest managers know what they would be working with in Laird and are steering clear. The statement (likely written by Laird similar to when our German investors had a go at our fans) reeks of a bit of him saving face. Rather than doing what he best for Morton, holding his hands up to his mistakes, and walking away. Reply |

| 8. Author: Sacktheref69 Date: Fri 2nd Jan 2026. 07:37 I must admit I was shocked that John Rankin passed on the opportunity. It raises a lot of questions: did he apply and then get cold feet? Did new information come to light that made the role less attractive? Or was the chairman’s resignation the catalyst? These are questions we’ll probably never get answered. However, seeing other clubs in turmoil makes me more thankful for the people currently running the show at EEP. We were sold a dream under the previous consortium, but very little came to fruition. Bord and Co have only been in place a short time, yet they’ve already put their money where it was needed and have the club running better off the pitch than it has been in a long time. This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it. Reply |

A footnote to their report may be of interest to Pars` fans - `There was also an approach to speak to Michael Tidser but that move didn’t materialise as Kelty Hearts were looking for a seven figure compensation package for their No. 2. Other candidates like James McPake and Allan Johnston had also been under consideration.` `A seven figure compensation package` ???!!! Reply |
