Agree that McGlynn & Lennon would be the obvious candidates in Scotland….in fact, McGlynn must be in with a serious shout surely, but suspect it’ll be someone outwith Scotland.

Maybe, but Scott Brown or Simo Valakari could be seen as good fits for Aberdeen. Although I think Simo is personally invested in St Johnstone and it would be hard to shift him.

Update | Chairman Statement
Sunday, 4 January, 2026
To the Livingston FC Community:

Let me begin by acknowledging that a 1-6-13 record after 20 games is unacceptable. There is no excuse for our poor record, and I want to recognise the anger, frustration, and disappointment that our play has created for our incredible fanbase, our dedicated staff, and amazing volunteers. You deserve better, and that falls on my shoulders first.

When the opportunity to invest in Livingston came to me many months ago, the first person I met at the Club was David Martindale. During our first call, I could tell that his passion and loyalty for Livingston FC was beyond the scope of anything I had ever seen before in sport. It was contagious, and I knew almost immediately that this was a special place, and that the opportunity to do something great here was palpable.

Despite the incredible challenges we have faced this season thus far, Davie’s attitude, and the demeanour of his staff, have remained both positive and optimistic. Davie is a leader, and will continue to be the leader of this football club. He, and his staff, have my full support.

I did not come into this Club to hire and fire managers. I have seen the toxicity and chaos that can bring to a team and to the community. I am here to build something sustainable that can only be accomplished by continuity, and not making harsh, unprepared, impulsive decisions. I fully recognise the reality of the current situation, and it’s easy (for me as well) to look at it negatively and to want to find blame. But I also know the merit and reward of slogging through the trenches together, battered and bloody, and finding ourselves on the other side more fortified and unified than ever.

Rather than view the situation with a pessimistic outlook, I ask you to join me and unite around this team and this staff. I know this is not the easy path, but for now, I am confident it is the right one. I promise you all that I will do everything in my power to turn this ship and help move it in the right direction. I am frustrated, yes, but I am also incredibly bullish on what 2026 will bring to Livingston FC. The war is far from over. Never give up the fight.

With gratitude,

Calvin Ford
Chairman, Livingston FC

Although I was brought up in Livingston (having been forced, against my will, to move from my Dunfermline birth town at six months old) I have absolutely zero affinity to Livingston FC but really good post from Calvin Ford.

The reality for Livingston is that Martindale has got them into a position way higher than their finances and fan base merit. They’re already punching. Although they might be bottom of the league, I’d suggest that’s about as high as they can go. Yes, they’ve been higher in the SPL in their history but perhaps the league is a bit stronger just now with decent Motherwell and St Mirren sides etc. I really don’t think Livi should be expecting much more. Martindale has done massively well with the budget that he’s got.
I guess this message is also to let Aberdeen and Killie (or any other potential suitors) know that they value him…….i don’t think he’s being considered for either (Dons or Killie) but it’d be interesting to see what he could do with some extra budget.

Ruben Amorim might not last long? Moaning about lack of signings. Him and Wilcox at loggerheads

Has just been sacked

As much as I dont disagree, why should people not expect more or why should it be as high as they can go? We`re knocking on the European door just a few seasons ago.

Owner with money, positive things happening etc...

C'mon Ye Pars!

"Incredible fanbase" and "special place" doing a lot of heavy lifting in that Livingston post.

West Ham are a good case study when it comes to kneejerk sacking managers. Moyes delivers a European trophy, keep them in the Premier League under financial constraints, and within a year he was gone. Now they’re getting turned over by a side who couldn’t buy a league win all season. Life comes at you fast.

MU are proposing to appoint a caretaker manager until the end of the season rather than make a permanent appointment just now.

Agree with DunPar: that’s a very timely and canny statement from Ford at Livi. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it wasn’t designed to dissuade Martindale from pursuing any merry-go-round interest that might come his way.

Livi may be struggling at the foot of the table but Martindale’s teams have been over-performing for years. Another club will eventually have a nibble…

There`s been a lot of fan pressure, 1 win in 20.

Believe it to be 12 in 80 Premier league games or something off the top of my head.

It was a statement to provide clarity and backing, nothing further. There`s a genuine belief and financial backing there to help to turn things around.

The recent flurry of transfers into Livi, some announced before the window opened, certainly suggests the board back David Martindale.

They are only 4 points off Killie, have a game in hand, and will play those around them post split. Still very much in their hands.

To Martindale`s credit I recall they were criticised in the first half of last season for being solid but not creating much. They then did decent business in January and created more while staying solid in the 2nd half of the season.

Hopefully we also have a good January window this time around.
