We can’t keep using the fact that we’re a young team as an excuse for poor performances, especially when it wasn’t mentioned at all when we were winning games. We’ve managed a decent run, but as most teams in the Championship can testify, consistency in this league is hard to come by.

Yes, the first half was poor, but for me, the positive was how well we reacted. We haven’t seen that in a team for a long time. Being able to get back into a game after a bad half of football and still come away with a result is what will keep us in the mix.

Yes, we’re a young side, but we can’t use that as an excuse when things don’t go our way and then ignore it when we win. This league is notorious for its inconsistency, we will have halves like yesterday, but the pleasing thing was the reaction and rectification.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Can’t see how Bene could play in a back 3 with no pace. As said by others he would simply set us up to deep. Think we’ll see him warming the bench for the remainder of his Pars career.

I’m pretty sure Bene was picked in a back three to combat Ikpeazu’s physicality ? It didn’t go to plan, hence the change, but I can understand the manager’s thinking.
Todd was anonymous, which didn’t help.

I`m pretty sure Abdulai could have dealt with the physicality. Has he been injured? Not sure why he`s been benched recently.

Folk keep mentioning how young our team is, but it wasnt that young yesterday….

Oxborough - 27
Todd - 24
JCM - 21
Bene - 34
Ngwenya - 23
Fraser - 22
Gilmour - 27
Amade - 26
Morrison - 26
Tod - 20
Kane - 31

No teenagers in the starting 11 and an average age of 25 and a half years old. And when you look at some of them (Todd, Ngwenya) they have plenty of experience at this level now too.

Add in that 3 of them are in international squads, the youngster excuse doesn’t hold as much weight now.

Bene was excellent 2 weeks ago against Ikpeazu and White in a back 4 alongside NGwenya and Turley and Fraser.

Yesterday he was in the middle of a back 3. Jerry and NGwenya repeatedly gave the ball away cheaply and Todd had an off day, to put it mildly. The shape was addressed at HT and we looked miles better.

Bene struggled yesterday but he wasn`t the only reason we were so far off it for 45 minutes. He`s an easy target tho, I suppose.

Have to agree with that. The poor passing out of defence by JCM, Kieron, Matty put Bene under unnecessary pressure. When you play a back three you really need to be decisive when clearing the box, and be accurate with your passing. Several times when clearing the box in the first half, we had nobody to pick the ball up in the midfield areas to take the pressure off.

“Everything to do with patience. Young team short of experience, we’ll get there!”

Agree with that, but it was our most experienced player who let us down badly today. I’ve never been a fan of his although I did acknowledge a couple of decent games he played earlier in season but he has no pace at all. This needs to be his last season. Some players can keep on going but Bene, unfortunately for him, isn’t a Davey Weir or a Richard Gough.

JCM had two chances to clear it for their first goal and made an erse of it on both attempts. Bene probably should have headed it out for a corner for the second, although Ngwenya didn`t have a clue, and by the time he decided to commit, it was too late. Good reaction to a poor half though. Good result considering the result at half time. Hopefully we get the bad performances out of the way before Hampden.

would have taken a point before the game along with no injuries, hopefully Morrison pulling up isnt as bad as it looked but just confirms the need to certainly look at free agents before the end of the month.

dont think he would have and hasnt been injured. last game against Queens Park, Lennon went mental at him 4 or 5 times in the first half an hour, along with a few other moments in games before that, think they have looked at it as time to give him a break

I may be wrong here but is Abdulai of Muslim faith and may have been participating in Ramadan and the fasting may have affected fitness levels to go 90 minutes in a physical league . I know other Muslim players have played during Ramadan but it was just a thought as to why we haven’t seen much of him lately.

Surprisingly perhaps, we are joint second-top scorers in the Championship with PT on 42 goals. SJ have scored 53, having played one game more.

That`s very bl00dy surprising indeed....that we are joint top scorers with PT on 42 goals. I`m surprised St Johnstone aren`t top scorers with 53

I think at the end of the day its a good point. Not an easy place to go. Last season we probably wouldnt have bounced back.

It`s an improvement on this season`s first game up there when we lost two early goals, got it back to 2-2 but lost 3-2.
