7. Author: neils Date: Fri 17th Apr 2026. 13:25 Absolutely ridiculous, they are behaving like the Ugly Sisters or Fergies Man U Surely it`s a breach of broadcasting contract? Football is about opinions, and the standard of refereeing is as bad as I can remember, too many fast tracked? Reply
8. Author: Lesliepartoo Date: Fri 17th Apr 2026. 14:13 The SFA won`t like the fact he speaks the truth.. Says exactly what other folk are thinking but don`t say it Cmon ye pars Reply
9. Author: veteraneastender Date: Fri 17th Apr 2026. 14:32 I`ve always liked Michael Stewart as a BBC radio pundit. He robustly criticised Rangers marketing orange tops in one discussion, much to the annoyance of one former Ibrox name on the show - might have been Barry Ferguson ? Soon after he retired from playing he did an interview which went into players "dressing room" chat - making clear that money was the factor which motivated players and the mercenary mindset of most agents. Much the same as any other job/profession. Post Edited (Fri 17 Apr 14:33) Reply

11. Author: wee eck Date: Fri 17th Apr 2026. 15:01 Apparently the ban started with the recent Scotland v Japan friendly and is indefinite. He apologised to the SFA last November after initially claiming they `covered up` a VAR decision in a match between St Mirren and Hibs. Personally, I think he comes across as a bit of a `know-all` and not just about refereeing decisions. He even seems to like putting his fellow-commentators in their place if an opportunity arises. Some pundits are pretty bland but others seem to go out of their way to be controversial. Reply
12. Author: parsmad68 Date: Fri 17th Apr 2026. 16:02 Are they stopping him from making a living through his profession. Seems like that to me. It has to be something very serious for an indefinite ban. If so SFA, come out and declare your position. Reply
13. Author: jake89 Date: Fri 17th Apr 2026. 20:45 Being a referee is a hard job. Remaining focussed solidly through the game and having the added stress of thousands of fans yelling at you. Saying that, how many awful decisions have we seen this year? It seems worse than ever. The occasional error is to be expected but we seem to have had the shitty end of the stick a lot. Even the Premier with VAR some decisions seem bewildering. Reply
14. Author: d3monstrate Date: Fri 17th Apr 2026. 20:53 The tinkering of the rules over the last few years haven`t helped the referees though, with a lot being down to interpretation. As for Stewart, he is a clown, paid simply to wind folk up. Gives an opinion and if anyone dares question it, even with actual facts, he berates them until the show finishes... Reply

Author: BouncyPar Date: Fri 17th Apr 2026. 20:54 jake89, Fri 17 Apr 20:45 I`d have much more respect for the individual ref, and the SFA in general, if referees had the opportunity to be open an honest post-match. Explain why they made a particular call, admit to a perhaps mistaken shout, remind the normal fans why the rules state they had to call xy or z. It`s the silence that bothers me. I don`t care if they make a mistake. Maybe they were correct in a call that was an obscure rule and the fans could be educated. Either way, the unapproachable distancing is a barrier that ruffles feathers Reply |
