Topic: Who Takes Us To The Next Level?

If we’re serious about pushing on next season, who do you think we should be signing this summer?

Not just “big names”, but realistic signings that would actually improve the squad and fit how we want to play. Do we need an experienced striker who guarantees goals, a creative midfielder who can unlock defences, or should the focus be on tightening up at the back first?

Would you rather:

* Young hungry players from the lower leagues?
* Premiership loans?
* Experienced Championship veterans?
* Or should we gamble on unknown talent from abroad?

Also, which current players should the club build around, and who do you think it’s time to move on from?

Interested to hear everyone’s thoughts because this transfer window feels massive for where the club goes next. A couple of smart signings could completely change the season — but getting it wrong could leave us stuck mid-table again.

Who should we sign and why?

I’d prefer it if we kept the nucleus of the squad and see where we stand before deciding where to add.
If Todd, Mullen and Ngwenya are away then we most certainly have a major rebuilding job ahead as we are much weaker without them.
That presents its own problems as far as pushing for the title as shoving 6 or 7 new players into the squad takes time to gel and get to know each other.
As I’ve said before most championship winning teams get off to a flyer winning the vast majority of the games in the opening quarter.
As to who we sign, hopefully a couple of real experienced pros who know what it takes to win the league and maybe get Olly Thomas back to bolster the attacking options.

Worry about permanent keepers
Concen over centre half`s, as shown by celtics first
Concern about the front, kane is superb, but is a one man band, others help out sometimes but not enough, Andy tod is top scorer, but in big matches not enough.

Some of the above is affected by tactics and position played, but needs to be sorted.
My guess is 2+2+2+1 , ie 7 players, need to be conscious that players are good enough for next league as that is minimum this year.

For about 4 or 5 transfer windows now we`ve failed to get a permanent solution to our GK situation, that has to be priority number 1.

I would love us to adopt the four at the back more often next season, I feel attacking wise we are so much more of a threat in that set up as was evident in the second half vs Celtic.

On the guys that look like are leaving JCM is far and away the hardest to replace, we were never going to keep a player of his level in the championship for too long. I love Matty but he is replaceable in my opinion. Ngwenya has been terrific and I think as a defender he is solid but on the ball struggles at times, deserves his move if he goes.

I’d like the starting line up to look something like the below:

Oxborough

Fraser Abdulai (New Starting CH) (New starting RB)

Gilmour. Amade/(New starting CM)

(New starting CAM)

Morrison. (New Starting Striker). (New starting LW)

I think the key areas are defensively and a couple experienced attacking players. Would love a Morrison type on the other side, strong experienced centre half and another player of Gilmours quality, like a Macleer from saints or something not that would happen of course. We’re not far away from a proper side and although we spent money last season I felt it we weren’t quite there with the experience side of things, a few tweaks and we could be right up there.

No place for Kane or A Tod in that starting line-up?

If we can’t get Oxborough, is the Hearts keeper (ex St Johnstone) Zander Clark out of contract this summer? I think he would be a good signing.

Elie Youan might be worth a punt (assuming he`s happy to stay in Scotland)?

Aye Kanes a given if he keeps fit for the season which I can’t see. And A Tod has been fantastic for a breakout season but I don’t think a team going for the title can put their eggs in one basket with him being so young. Both will definitely play a massive part for sure. Same with Amade etc. I just think we need a stronger squad to dip into off the bench next season.

I would like Simon Murray if he was available.
A passionate player who can score goals.

Someone like chalmers at Partick might be good, take a leaf out of rangers book in that it straightens us but importantly weakness rivals.

Not sure who else is about, ox was miles better than what we had and he was a benchwarmer at well so surely there’s plenty of good players who are not getting a game in the prem who would improve us.

We need pace, strength and more end product to move it up a level.

100% I agree.

Oxburgh I think is the best goalkeeper we’ve had in years so it’s easy to think we should try get him on a permanent deal.

Kane, Murray and Rudden with A Tod, Rory MacLeod and Keith Bray as backup? Pretty strong for the championship like…

In saying that I don’t know MacLeod contract status???

Btw I think A Tod has done really well overall this season but I do still think he’s young and got a bit learning. I’d like to see him play regularly but I think taking the pressure off him a little would benefit him.

Just seen on X but 13 players out of contract

Deniz Mehmet
Kyle Benedictus
Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen
Alasdair Davidson
Sam Fisher
Kieran Ngwenya
Ewan Otoo
Sam Young
Chris Hamilton
Ewan McLeod
Tashan Oakley-Boothe
Kane Ritchie-Hosler
Matty Todd

It doesn’t say who’s been offered deals or if any of them have offers elsewhere etc but at least we can see who’s more likely not to be here 🤷🏻‍♂️
