I appreciate he`s done well to get us to the WC but I would have preferred to wait to see how we are set up and perform before committing to another 4 years.

Our performances at previous Euro`s was abysmal and at the time there was widespread disappointment and calls for a change.

Fingers crossed he`s also gained from past experiences and gives it a right go this time.

The SFA really is just a cozy little club for the boys. Nobody is coming in for him, so what if he craps the bed yet again. Is this really the guy to transition the squad for the next Euros.

Difficult not to offer him an extension as he has been one of the most successful Scotland managers we’ve had - qualifying for major tourneys we shouldn’t take for granted although agree performance at Euros is shoddy.

I was a little disappointed with the squad he announced, sticking with players he knows than some that are on form but will see how it pans out.

Our performances against England, Switzerland and Croatia were alright but I agree we needed to be bolder v Czech Republic (although don`t underestimate weird covid empty stadium effect) and Hungary in particular.

Although for me it`s very much a "careful what you wish for" situation with wanting rid of Clarke. The wilderness years were *very* long.

Really appreciate what he’s done but we’ve been lucky to qualify for tournaments under him. Performances at tournaments have been an embarrassment. I think there are managers out there that could maybe do better with Scotlands current pool of players.

Has done very well in qualifiers with a pretty poor record in friendlies. Think there is a very large transition after this world cup where many regular faces are wrong side of 30 and probably not around by time 2030 comes.

Saying we`ve been lucky to qualify is a massive disservice. Remember where we were when he took over to now.

The Serbia playoff we dominated, lost a stupid late goal, but then won on penalties.

We beat Spain and finished ahead of a very good Norway team with 2 games to spare for Euro 2024.

To get to the World Cup, we finished above Denmark and Greece who had both comfortably beat us in recent history.

He does have a few blots on his scorecard (Czech at Euro 2020, Ukraine WC playoff, Hungary at Euro 2024) but he`s more than done enough to merit the contract.

A deal to 2028 would have been fair, with the option to extend if we made the euros.

It could well be that, look at Shanklands deal that was never made public.

Well if that’s the case then I get why they said to 2030 because it’s probably about a 0.01% we don’t make the euros since we are hosting them

Wow can the likes of Hanley, Adams and Dykes last another 4 years🤔

Can’t say I’m thrilled but on the flip side the longer deal is potentially a good thing, instead of dragging the last out of a diminishing squad (which he might have with a 2 year deal) this gives him the freedom for a proper rebuild which is needed

Who would you have in the squad ahead of them?

Can’t say I’m excited at the prospect of him hanging around. He’s got a good qualifying record, but he’s still too reliant on some players who don’t really perform, and we were rank at the last Euros.

I’m not against giving Steve Clark a contract extension because he’s obviously been successful with the national team however, we’ve been poor at tournaments and we’re about to enter a tournament. We should have waited to see what happens at the World Cup IMO.

If we have a decent World Cup, I don’t think there could be much arguing with the contract extension but if we stink the place out/get put out too early/lose or draw with Haiti… it’s going to look a terrible decision

Don`t mind him getting a new contract, it`ll stop it being talked about during the world cup,.....but 4 years!

SFA are inviting criticism on themselves. If we get beat in another friendly at the weekend, then have a poor world cup, fans will be livid. Hopefully neither happens of course.

Do you seriously think these guys are perennial performers and deserve first choice?

As I said, who would you have in the squad ahead of them?

Dykes and Adams are there to occupy defenders and create space for the better players in behind them. It`s not glamorous but they put in a shift.

Shankland has his place in this squad, but hasn`t really performed for Scotland when starting. He`s been very effective as a late sub when needing a goal against tired legs.

Hanley, of course a lot of criticism is merited, however we`ve hardly got a host of centre halves waiting in the wings to take his place.
