Sounds like good business for us. Looks like he can play LCB or LWB as well, so a bit of cover for Fraser too. 60+ appearances in League 1 in England and 30+ appearances for St Johnstone in the Premiership.

And from COWS -

Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of left-sided defender Luke Robinson on a two-year contract, subject to Scottish FA clearances.

The 24-year-old joins the Pars following the expiry of his contract with English League One side Wigan Athletic, where he progressed through the club’s academy before making his senior debut in 2020. During his time with the Latics, Robinson gained valuable first-team experience, making over 50 appearances and helping the club secure the League One status in the 2021–22 season.

Born in Birkenhead, Robinson represented Scotland at Under-18 and Under-19 level and is capable of playing both at left-back and on the left side of central defence.

To further his development, Robinson enjoyed loan spells with Tranmere Rovers before moving north of the border with St Johnstone. Across two spells in Perth, he made more than 30 Scottish Premiership appearances, gaining valuable experience of Scottish football and establishing himself as a dependable defensive option.

Everyone at Dunfermline Athletic extends a warm welcome to Luke and wishes him every success during his time at KDM Group East End Park.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

You have to wonder about the disparity in wages between the Pars and Wigan if we managed to persuade him to come up here. How does that square with JCM signing on down there? Do signing-on fees maybe come into it?

Signing on fee and in Mullens case closer to his family. I’ll maybe get myself up to Wigan for a few games this season, keep folk appraised of his/their progress.

..................................

He came up through Wigans Youth ranks - so likely got progressive rises that wouldn`t match players brought in from other clubs.

He`s 24 and has been under contract for 6 years. Surely they can`t discriminate against academy players indefinitely? I`m just surprised that we can attract a player used to EL1 wages.

He only started one league game for Wigan since the turn of the year and was released at the end of the season. He might have been used to League 1 money, but it is likely that it wasn`t available to him anymore.

In his interview when going to Tranmere he said he is a left footed player and can play LB or LCB. Was part of their promotion winning team a few seasons back. He describes himself as an out and out defender but can get forward. Maybe spoke with JCM about the club and the oportunity to get his career back on track. Knows the Scottish game from St J days.

The wages in EL2 and probably at some clubs in the National League will be better than the Scottish Championship. Anyway, the financial deal is between him and the club and he must be happy with it. He also knows what to expect from Scottish football having spent time on loan at St Johnstone.

When he was on loan initially at St J he got rave reviews then he got an injury. Has maybe struggled since then and this is a new start for him.

“As soon as I saw any interest, I couldn’t wait to get back up to Scotland and get started,” Robinson said. “I followed Dunfermline quite a bit last season and thought they were unlucky in the Play-Offs and in the Scottish Cup Final. I thought it was something I definitely wanted to be a part of.”

Manager Neil Lennon played a key role in bringing the Birkenhead-born defender to Fife. Robinson also has Scotland youth pedigree, having featured at U18 and U19 level.

“He just said he knows how to get players playing,” Robinson explained. “He knows how to get a team winning and he can see that for me. I just love the ambition of the club and the manager himself. He’s won things and it speaks volumes. Hopefully, now that I am here, that’s what I can do: I want to win stuff.”

Comfortable at left-back, left wing-back or on the left of a back three, Robinson says he’ll bring more than just defensive qualities.

“I’m a big character,” he added. “I’m not scared to say what’s on my mind. You’ve got to have a voice on and off the pitch. I’m a defender first and foremost, but I like to bring strong running – I’ve got a good engine – and a desire to win for the team. I’ve got winning values.”

Robinson already knows Chris Kane at the club and has been impressed by what he’s heard about the group Lennon is building. “I think what they did last season was really good and they were very unlucky,” he said. “If we add to that, then we’ll go one better. Hopefully, going only one way.”

With the Premier Sports Cup starting away to East Kilbride this weekend, Robinson is eager to get in front of the Pars support. “I watched the Clyde game the other weekend,” he said. “The fans were there in their numbers. Hopefully we get them here at East End Park in their numbers as much as possible, too. That’s the extra 1% we need to get over the line.”

He seems to have done his homework.

All I`ve seen on X is Wigan and St Johnstone fans saying great things about him, so I`m absolutely delighted with this signing. Think we`ve surprised quite a few journos with this one.

Must be coming in primarily as a left sided centre-back, as I doubt we’ll be looking to replace Fraser. (Although seems like he can also provide cover in that position).

From the comments online it seems like a good signing.

Let’s see who’s next!

I quite like how most of our signings seem to happen without too much prior knowledge on social media.
