Hard to believe, but that score flattered USA. They were completely outplayed and could have been 3 down in the first 15 minutes. I think in the first half their goal (which was a deflection off a Belgian player) was their only shot on target.

And if you think Scotland`s defensive errors were bad, wait till you see the third Belgian goal!

Agree Stanza. USA was totally flat in the first half. Clearly, the news from the last 36 hours affected them. Was it FIFAโ€™s position reversal yesterday or Trumpโ€™s smarmy comments today, itโ€™s tough to say. Credit to Belgium, though, because they played well without starting Lukaku, Doku or KDB.

I didn`t watch but it`s clear the US were cheated.

And I`m an expert in these sorts of matters. Some would say the most expert type of expert.

If Trump is going to insist staying on the podium when the trophy is handed out (and he will) then I hope Belgium win the whole thing just for the lols.

What was with the weird virtue signalling at the end?

Couldn`t they have had their little prayer in the dressing room like normal people?

Just being reported that FIFA are to place the USA straight into the final after a call from President Trump who requested their defeat is suspended for a year.

Trump just made a statement saying that Belgium is two weeks away from developing a nuclear bomb.

Poch clearly has a reputation far exceeding his abilities.... one good run with Spurs to Champs League is the anomaly

In all seriousness - 3 defensive howlers from the US the 3rd and 4th in particular were horrific defending at that level. They made it as far as their ability should have a top 16 team.

The best players at the youth level in the US are not playing in the top teams and academies.... pay to play model prices out the majority of the soccer/football loving communities

I get the logic re sending off players. Why should it result in a player not being able to play in the next game. Trump should not be trying to change the rules half way through the competition however. As a spectator sport ultimately, i do think this banning players from the next game following a red needs to be looked at. This is particularly so given the number of cards that are handed out these days and varying circumstances.

I was reading that the players were doing a little Trump style dance after the 4th goal. Well done gents! Future ESTAs for those boys will now be revoked ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘€.

I have some sympathy for this view, as a player being banned for the next game potentially benefits the opposing team in the next game, who (eg) might be neck-and-neck in a title race with the team against whom the actual offence was committed.

But if the offence is only punished in the game in which the offence is committed, then it will become more worthwhile to commit a serious foul very late in a game, knowing the offender`s team will only be a man short for a few minutes. This could increase the likelihood of a late goal being prevented by a red card offence, and more importantly, players could be at greater risk of serious injury because of reckless last-minute challenges.

The present red card system gives a punishment during the game as well as for the next game, it`s well understood and doesn`t need changing.

However, I do think there`s a place for a 5 or 10 minute sin-bin for lesser offences, which directly punishes the offending team immediately.
