I think some are being wetwipes regarding Argentina. Give me that passion any day over handshakes and bottom kissing.

Trying a wee bit too hard!

I’m pleased Spain won. They play football in its most pure format. Nobody who loves football could condone the antics of the Argentinians. It’s a shame because they do possess some excellent players such as Messi, Alvarez, Martinez and Romero.

Take Messi out of that team and it`s only above average. By the way I think Messi should have got the golden ball. Other than the final he made telling contributions, sometimes amazing ones, in every game.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

And Manchester United. And Milan. And Ajax and Bayern told them where to stick the Intercontinental Cup. 🙄

I wholeheartedly agree that Spain deserved to win the match, but lets not forget that Spain are cheating b@$tards too - the amount of playacting and diving etc they got away with throughout the tournament is ridiculous.

Check out 1966 World Cup 1/4 final - Antonio Rattin, Argentina captain.

The starting point for the introduction of red and yellow cards - thanks to English referee Ken Aston having a moment of inspiration waiting for traffic lights to change.

I’m very surprised Messi didn’t get the golden ball award. It would have been a fitting send off for perhaps the GOAT? Only Diego could challenge him for that

Thats just pandering to the media and such. Like participation awards and medals for 3rd place play offs. Golden Ball should go to a player from the winning team. He didn’t even show up in the biggest game of the tournament.

8 goals and 4 assists meant a very good personal tournament for him
As for not showing up in the final, hard to when greedy Spain kept the ball most of the time.

If you are going by this tournament alone up until the final I think Mac Allister and Fernandez were Argentina`s best players with their tremendous work-rate allowing Messi to walk about. They did have a pretty good draw with Algeria, Jordan, Cape Verde and Egypt too.

I had a feeling the current version of Messi might struggle(relatively speaking of course) against the really top teams and he didn`t do a great deal against Switzerland, England or Spain. He can still produce something out of the blue but he spent about 70% of the tournament walking.

I thought Rodri was a deserving winner of the player of the tournament, even if I don`t have a great deal of time for him. Thought he was outstanding against the French in particular.

Messis isn`t the force he was in his prime of course but I doubt they would have made the final without him. The problem they`ll have is replacing him.

Paredes a a disgrace at full time, trying to fight everyone and anyone.

Apparently he got a red card for his full-time antics.

^^^ A Red Card is meant to be dished out for a footballing offence. This was a criminal act. 🤔

The Spanish goal that was ruled out should have stood. 🤔

Messi making a pass and then purposely running + crashing into the Spanish player to win a free kick for himself when it should have been awarded to Spain 🤔

What`s the point of VAR if these antics are going to be allowed?

Argentina left a bad taste after a decent world cup. The footballing world needs to take action against thuggery

The players already wear flimsy ballet shoes 🩰, why not complete the kit with a tutu?

The final was the first game I have watched and teary teary me that would get football stopped

Never mind tho .. after Fifa made over 5 billion they are selling off the cup final turf 17 cm x 17 cm in a perspex box for £325 a time .. Mmmm think I will order enough to returf my lawn

Don’t think you can single out Argentina for players trying to ‘win’ free kicks - every single team in the world does that, and there were plenty examples on show right across this World Cup

Think we all agree final was a one sided anti climax

Credit to Spain for being absolutely dominant on the day, but equally… they were basically unable to break Argentina down and translate all that possession into goals

Its a poor spectacle when you only have one team trying to win it in 90 minutes. At the end of the day you want to win it on merit, so the best team came out on top.

Argentina were a disgrace to football. I had them to win the
World Cup @9/1, but after watching their
disgusting
tactics yesterday, I was glad that Spain won.

This is nothing new for Argentina, from 1966 (Ramsay animal statement), Celtic (as previously stated) 1978 final kept the Dutch team waiting 10mins before they appeared, they seem to revel in thuggery, without being penalised. The flag/ banner against England.
The scenes at the end of the showcase final were just incredible!
League teams in the past have been banned from competitions for similar to yesterday’s battles. Kick them out/ ban them for a World Cup.
Should happen but it won’t, a fine which they will pay from their winnings!
Rant over, back to following Pars🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
