I know it`s very early days, but after 2 or 3 matches in the Lowland Leagues East & West, three long-established former SPFL clubs look as if they might have relegation worries this season.

In the West League, from 2 games Albion Rovers have 0 points. But they are probably safe, as the bottom two at the end of the season are likely to be Dalbesttie Star and Newton Stewart, who seem well out of their depth.

In the East League, Cowdenbeath have 0 points from 3 games, and Berwick Rangers have 1 point from 2 games. Obviously a long way to go, but if they were to be relegated, Cowden would drop to the East of Scotland Premier League and find themselves playing against the likes of Thornton Hibs and Dundonald Bluebell.

Sad to say that Cowden will just be one slow permanent decline. The stadium rental is a killer, and sadly the locals are more interested in the Ugly Sisters. A good club, but not enough support, and will eventually end up in a lower league and find their level. Incredibly there has been a club started up Cowdenbeath Central) original name Blue Brazil) which would take some support away.

I was at The Haws V The Shire game, and even though it was a decent game, I can`t see where the Shire can go- ground sharing at Ochilview again.

Berwick is a bit of a travesty, they just made one bad move in the seniors, and ended up losing constantly and getting relegated. They then did what most teams do, kept the budget to try and get promoted again, and ended up losing too much money. They actually have a support big enough for the seniors still, but not enough to recruit in a difficult area.

Albion Rovers in a sizeable town suffer even more from OF support, and they are down permanently - all fine clubs with a good history, but hard to see any coming back, and there are plenty of good `new` clubs that are taking over and will add to the senior leagues.

Yes, I think Shire still have a ground share with Falkirk.
[[EDITED - NO, THEY DON'T]]

The two clubs have also just signed a Co-operation Agreement, with 3 of the Falkirk youngsters getting first team experience with Shire.

I though East Stirlingshire played at the Falkirk Stadium but looking at the fixture list it list Ochilview, so don`t know if they have changed

They were playing at Falkirk Stadium, but.... something happened, and so couldn`t play there any more. I`m not going to be the one to say what happened, but it`s a classic!

They are back at Ochilview now

Sad to say, Scottish clubs seem to have collectively taken another downward turn in recent years. Any team, other than the OF ( and even they are struggling), trying their hand in Europe, ends in embarrasment (Hearts 0 Strum Gratz 6). And did Rangers and Aberdeen not get beaten by a similar aggregate margin last year? Takes me back to Dunfermline`s Heyday when the best teams in Norway and Denmark ( Boldklub) were considered to be the "whipping boys of Europe" but now that seems to be how we might be viewed by these countries. And as for Cowdenbeath, I`m sure most of the top amateur teams would beat them now.

Yes, seemingly the Shire went back to Ochilview last season.

I remember playing once at Firs Park, the old home of East Stirling. I was standing in the centre circle during the game and couldn’t see my boots. The mud was up to my ankles!
