Author: dafc4ever Date: Tue 11th Aug 2026. 11:24 SPFL Player launches William Hill Championship, L1 and L2 games broadcast outside blocked hours The SPFL has launched a new live domestic streaming offering which will see the league produce and broadcast William Hill Championship, League 1 & 2 matches outside blocked hours on behalf of clubs on a pay-per-view basis. Coverage will begin with live coverage of all William Hill League 1 and League 2 matches taking place this Saturday, 15 August. The SPFL Player can be accessed via www.spflplayer.com and will soon be available within the UK and Ireland on all app stores. It will stream league matches across the three divisions not already aired by BBC Scotland or BBC ALBA on matchdays where broadcast blocked hours are not applicable. Matches in William Hill League 1 and 2 are available to purchase this Saturday, due to the reduced league card around the Premier Sports Cup last 16. The move follows the successful trial by the SPFL in May, which saw every single William Hill SPFL play-off match broadcast live for the first time, and positive discussions with clubs around looking at new ways to further improve the delivery of live matches. A 24-hour pass to watch your club’s match costs £10.99 and is available for fans in the UK and Ireland, plus supporters will be able to view all of the non-top-flight league matches taking place that day on catch up. The SPFL will produce and stream the matches, with revenue distributed back to the home club in each fixture. Neil Doncaster, SPFL group chief executive, said: “The launch of the SPFL Player is an important step forward for the league and our clubs, as well as great news for supporters. “For the first time, fans in the UK and Ireland will be able to watch their team in the William Hill Championship, League 1 and League 2 whenever matches fall outside blocked hours — whether they`re unable to attend on the day or following their club online. “Following the success of last season`s play-off broadcasts, we`ve been in ongoing discussions with clubs about new ways to enhance the production quality of matches, and the SPFL Player delivers that while returning revenue directly to them. “It’s easy, simple and secure for fans to buy a live stream. They just need to go online to www.spflplayer.com and follow the prompts, and the money generated will directly financially help their club. “We’d lastly like to thank our clubs for their collaborative work to make this possible, and hope supporters enjoy this new offering this season.” Non-blocked hour dates for this season include 15 August, 12 September, 26 September, 14 November, 27 March and 1 May, plus further potential dates to be confirmed in due course. Author: Luxembourg Par Date: Tue 11th Aug 2026. 11:44 lol - I proposed this to SPL (as it was) in 2004 denied by OF, particularly the blue half, who demanded 60% of all revenues of any matches they played in - GFYS was pretty close to my answer. Lux TV (or more correctly internetfootball.co.uk) had already contracted with Pars, Dundee Utd, Motherwell & Falkirk.  Reply |

Lux will be aggrieved with that lie as I am ! they are supplying camera operator and commentary team too Note its just for the Block dates and as far as I know its to UK only I don`t know how it affects clubs that already stream on non-block dates, one was last Saturday 8th. So unless they are being very devious with the wording (definition of revenue) it doesn`t look like the OF are getting the lions share except for their home games. Author: parsmad68 Date: Tue 11th Aug 2026. 12:55 brian, Tue 11 Aug 12:11 Brian as you are more clued up in this area, there are four points of note that I can think of immediately that you will have more of an idea than the rest of us. So for clubs like Airdrie, Dunfermline, etc. who have been excellent to support this initiative already, then is this a competitive feature the SPFL are offering? For clubs like Ayr and others who previously made streaming difficult or do not have the correct infrastructure, will the SPFL support or enforce the infrastructure for those clubs? Not sure if you can answer this, but was there any consultation with the member clubs? Also the missing market of people who cannot make games due to ill health on a blocked Saturday still has not been addressed. Post Edited (Tue 11 Aug 12:55) Reply |

I don`t know how it will affect clubs that currently stream during the block periods. will they be prevented from streaming their own offering ? I would suggest for some clubs it will be less valuable as the SPFL now have to employ people to do it, and I`ve an idea how much QTV pay. clubs like Ayr and Partick have limited space and resources so its difficult for away teams to get connected. (personally though I think only Home teams should stream - that `s my personal opnion) I would say clubs have been consulted but I don`t know of the dialogue. Pirates are the biggest threat as they buy the stream legitimately while abroad. It`s difficult to trace them down sometimes so they make revenue. So do the VPN companies make revenue. | 20. Author: jake89 Date: Tue 11th Aug 2026. 16:25 I don`t really see the point in this tbh. Would they have a crew for the SPFL player and another for DAFC TV, or are they sharing the same feed? I still think Brian`s concept of ALL clubs having a set up similar to ParsTV and fans who have subscribed then get the same experience home and away without all the "access" nonsense. In an ideal world we`d be back having a Championship highlights reel like the old Scot sport/Sports scene. Reply |
