Real time I thought it was a blatant penalty but less so after replaying it over and over.

Good result in the end. Pleasing to see the new manager end a poor run

I see it differently. Gannon-Doak has the ball and the defender comes across to challenge him. He doesn’t get the ball and plants his foot directly in Gannon-Doak’s path. Gannon-Doak then steps on that foot and goes down.

The fact that Gannon-Doak’s foot lands on the defender’s makes it any less of a foul. The defender has attempted a challenge, missed the ball and put his leg into the path of an attacker who is in possession.

If the defender had planted his leg there and Gannon-Doak had hit his shin instead, nobody would question it being a penalty. The way it happens is slightly different, but the result is the same: the defender challenges, misses the ball and causes the attacker to fall.

Spoke to Tom English in the way out and he was positive we would win. And we did. Well done to all.

There were more players in the North Macedonia starting line-up that play in Scotland than there were in the Scotland line-up. Not suggesting it’s a bad thing just curious if it’s ever happened before?

Been impressed with both Welsh and Binks. They both look solid and comfortable on the ball.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

One small thing Pocognoli has done to improve the team is move Gilmour slightly further forward so his passing can be more effective in creating chances.

This is how I saw it. If BGD had made an obvious move to stand on the foot that would be different but he was at full tilt and it was planted right in his path. That kind of thing can knacker your ankle (and obviously the defender`s too). I think there might also have been small contact around the thigh or enough proximity that he had to try to avoid it at least

Bellingham/Kane/Saka get that decision all day long.

I`m surprised Josh McPake hasn`t had some game time and Pocognoli seems as reluctant to use Lennon Miller as Steve Clarke was. Maybe on Tuesday?

Exactly. You cant just plant your foot in the path of the player with the ball and say its no foul.
