Absolutely horrific seeing this, this morning. Carbon copy of Schumacher and Battiston in the 82 Euros. Difference is, this poor guy has died after getting poleaxed by the goalie. Awful, awful scenes

Just seen the challenge and it was brutal. I don`t know if i could live with that for the rest of my life.
There was no need to even do it as there was 2 defenders not to mention it was nearly on the half way line.

Do that on the street and you’re jailed for murder. Do it on the football pitch and it’s classed as a horrible accident. The keeper should be arrested immediately

I`ve seen the incident. It`s a terrible challenge - the red card was correct, but `murder` is WAY OVER THE TOP. Murder means intent to kill, if you`re telling me the keeper intended to kill him you`re way off the mark.

Do you think Sean Abbott should have faced charges for killing Phil Hughes?

The keepers life is ruined now, regardless as to whether he faces criminal charges.

Wont be watching it, but if it’s worse than the Germany/France one and as bad as others have said, its not going to be a nice thing to view.

RIP to him.

On a side note, I hope it wasnt an advantage from a foul/offside possibility. Too many players getting badly injured in these instances now.

No, it was kick up the park after an attack.
Jesus might have got the ball and scored and the keeper thinking he was last line of defence took him out.
Tragic outcome to a very reckless challenge. Obvious intent to injure for sure but not for a life threatening situation imo.

Occurred at just over half way line, the video is gut turning!

Tragic outcome.

There is no way that looks worse than Schumacher`s in my opinion although the result was obviously far more terrible.

The goalkeeper does at least seem to be looking at the ball.

Well, involuntary manslaughter under UK law.

The keeper actually gets to the ball first - he`s running full pelt in 98th minute to try and salvage a draw. The striker is also running full pelt. It`s a high impact collision. The problem is the keeper jumps with his knee up - which keepers are actually trained to do to `protect themselves` when claiming a high ball.

It`s for the justice department to determine if criminal charges are merited.

The outcome is worse than Schumacher on Battiston, the challenge wasn`t. Schumacher ls only aim was to take out Battiston.

Haven`t watched it and no wish to but can remember the Schumacher challenge.

Keeper may still face arrest ( certainly if it happened here, not sure about Spain) if the tackle was out of the ordinary line of tackles that one could usually expect to face in the course of a game. Conduct of play on a pitch is still subject to the laws of the land although yes, authorities are usually reluctant to get involved.

Knee up in the box when static and an on running player.

Not on the halfway line though. Imagine if all players did that!
