Beechgrove Garden presenter sadly passes away aged 89

Loved the programme, having watched it for a very long time. He had such knowledge and passion for botany. It was like viewing my parents, in their garden. 🪴

That is sad - I know next to nothing about gardens etc. but Jim was very watchable due to his down to earth (no pun intended) presentation on the telly.

RIP

Anyone else remember Riki Fulton and Gregor Fisher affectionate parody of Beechgrove in their Scotch and Wry show ..Jim and George portrayed getting a bit tiddly with wee nips from a bottle of whiskey hidden in the greenhouse.

Nobody laughed as much as them when they saw it!

Also got a signed photo from thon other guy that was on the beechgrove garden ... Guy with a beard.
Cannae mind his name .

Guy with the beard maybe Bill Torrance

George Barron and Jim McColl the original presenters, Carole Baxter did a lot of the gardening in the background. Good that she got her chance to be a presenter. Met Jim McColl years ago at the Highland Show. My mother is from Buchan originally so loved this programme. Any chance to hear a bit of Doric
