1. Author: The One Who Knocks Date: Sat 7th Dec 2024. 21:08 .... although this time it`s not the Scottish Government`s doing. A massive ferry is currently docked in Leith for the winter (paying a hefty sun for the privilege) after Australia paid a Finnish ship builder hundreds of millions to build that they don`t have facilities to cater for back in Tasmania. And although my eyes were open They just might as well be closed Reply |
2. Author: Wotsit Date: Sun 8th Dec 2024. 06:33 The success of the Finnish shipbuilding industry makes me wonder if the Tories were telling me the truth when they blamed high wages for the demise of the Scottish industry. The enemy travels by private jet, not by dinghy. Reply |

Author: The One Who Knocks Date: Sun 8th Dec 2024. 10:23 Don`t take this as gospel as it`s only a Google search and referencing pay comparison sites but wages in Finnish ship building industry appear to be the same or a little lower than here in the UK. And although my eyes were open They just might as well be closed Reply |

7. Author: Parboiled Date: Mon 9th Dec 2024. 14:40 I’ve been on the Hull Rotterdam one some years ago which was very choppy, must be quite common for the North Sea in late Autumn/Winter. Not sea sick that time, though sick bags were freely available tied on to chairs and railings etc! I was though one of a number of MOD civvies given a trip up and down the Forth on HMS Ghurkha in 1971. Jings.. view from the ship’s bridge was the squally sky, then the Forth Bridge, then the swell, rear up the FB again, then the sky then back doon again..then it was the bottom of the toilet! Reply |
8. Author: widtink Date: Mon 9th Dec 2024. 16:30 If you do it enough you will get used to it. My first 6 months at sea I was as sick as a dog. Then for the next 30 years I was fine 😊 Admin Reply |

I just know we were on passage to Norway one day in a force 7 or 8 with a wild sea and I didn`t feel Sick.... And never did again. One of the happiest days of my work life cos previously I`d been miserable in any sort of swell. Admin Reply |

13. Author: NMCmassive Date: Mon 16th Dec 2024. 21:05 Funny cos I was on the Rosyth - Zebrugge route a few times. One time in particular was choppy as anything, I had to use the safety strap things to stay on the bed. Didn’t throw up but felt nauseous the whole time. Apparently I was green 😂 my old man was fine tho 🤷🏻♂️ also got a shot on a sail ship once, took us ages to get out the harbour and I spent my time spewing over the side, once we were out and moving steady I was fine but again my old man was perfectly fine. I guess some folk get it and some folk don’t COYP Reply |
