I think that they are two separate issues NMC.

But I definitely agree that getting people to be more healthy is key, as is people making sure they`re doing as much as possible to be healthier.

We should restrict everyone’s sugar intake.

Good news is that can be done by working in partnership with food manufacturers (regulation if needed), taxing products that continue to put ridiculous amounts of sugar in food, and maybe even teaching kids how to cook decent non processed food from basic/cheaper ingredients (plus trying to inform adults what crap they are actually eating most of the time)

Notice I said calories and not sugar…

I know you’ve written about information/education which to me is a good way to go about it but a ban would be taking that option out of your hands.

They’re not really. They’re both personal choices which in different directly and indirectly impacts on everyone else.

I think if we sorted sugar, which feels easier, that would solve a lot of the issues around health and obesity.

Sugar stimulates your brain, raises your glucose levels which means when they then crash (or your brain thinks they’re going to), it makes you want more - which in turn means you eat more…

So yes I did talk about sugar and not calories but there’s clear positive correlation between the two

What if you only ate 1600 calories of sugar every day? What about 4000 calories of boiled chicken breast?

My point being the only way to make sure nobody is overweight is calorie counting. It’s the best system we’ve got for comparing input to output

I’d argue that eating less and moving more is the only way to regulate weight

Easier said than done of course and if someone could get me to take my own advice I’d be awfy grateful

Fair points, but i don’t think that reflects what’s most people consume.

I’d still say, start with reducing our sugar intake and then move onto highly processed foods would have a big impact.

…And as buffy says above, get us all moving more would be ideal, even as simple as taking a walk round the block
