Scottish government set to overturn the decision of the National Park board and grant approval for the Holiday & Water Park on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. It`s going to have a monorail as well. I`m sure it`ll complement the stunning scenery.

These proposals always divide opinion, such as Trump`s golf course up in the North East.

The NIMBY brigade will always struggle against big money developers, especially if there is the prospect of significant jobs on the agenda.

Well the Trump golf course is the classic case against such developments. A so called billion pound investment which was going to create thousands of jobs. Nothing like that was spent and only a few dozen are employed.

Correct TOWK. Trump promised the world to get approval then ignored the agreement and did what wanted to anyway.

I think that it`s stretching the definition of NIMBY to cover an entire country VEE: it wasn`t just folk in Aberdeenshire who were up in arms about that particular development.

"I think that it`s stretching the definition of NIMBY to cover an entire country VEE: it wasn`t just folk in Aberdeenshire who were up in arms about that particular development."

Indeed.

However, you have to look at the background of the NIMBY crew in such scenarios.

I mind a BBC Scotland news feature a few years ago where they interviewed 5 different protesters objecting to a new High school to serve the rural North West.

They were all incomer English couples who had retired to the area and had no kids of school age.

I bet the locals with family had a different perspective.

Trump conned the Scottish Government back then - but you can only get away with that once....hopefully !!!

Not sure why there such opposition against this. Flamingo land in Yorkshire is a brilliant attraction. The area its proposed for (Balloch and Alexandria) are both hovels and could do with the investment. Wont be as big a blight on the scenery that folk think either.

A "Take the High Road " theme park would be a success, along with a "Still Game" pub!🤔🤣🤣🤣

"The following is a guest post from David Younger on the decision by the Scottish Administration (it’s NOT a government)"

No point reading beyond that tbh. The author has done himself a massive disservice by displaying their own ignorance and stupidity so early on.

The approval isn`t planning permission. They haven`t even applied for that yet. This is a request to approve the idea of a theme park and even that isn`t signed off yet (suggestion is it will be). The approval, if it happens, comes from the independent planning reporter who makes the decision based on things like the approved local plans. Ministers don`t have involvement in the reporters decision as that responsibility is delegated. I would assume the land in Balloch is marked for leisure use and that`s what this is.

The detail of anything potentially concerning (for example, environmental damage) would be covered under the full planning application, NOT in the PPP.

In short, this is faux outrage from people who clearly don`t understand the planning process.
