Topic: Pavement Parking Ban

I don’t think any cars are parking on the pavement on Halbeath Road or Aberdour Road.

As for planing, I’m in a 10 year old new build and the council in their wisdom only required one parking space per house (all 3 bedroom). Not even space to put a second parking space in the front garden. Most houses have two cars. With additional folks parking there too, it can be like a slalom driving down the street!

I`m pretty sure people are still parking between the trees on Halbeath Road and the west end of Aberdour Road. The pavements are wide enough to allow it.

The biggest issue in the UK is all these houses built when cars were rare so there`s no driveway or it only takes one car. I`m not that old (shh...) but I remember when 2 car households were still fairly rare. Cars are also a lot wider than they used to be. The current Polo must be bigger than the old Golf.

Cars are 100% bigger than in the past. We went to park in an NPC car park in Glasgow the other week just off George Square - every car out the front of the spaces and my @rse was going like the clappers driving round it, having to do 2/3 3 point turns to get round bends etc. The Mrs didn’t trust my parking either despite getting into a space.

I don`t know what was happening at the Mosque on Woodmill Road today but there werw loads of cars legally parked on the road from the mini roundabout to the junction with Blacklaw Road. Traffic travelling west ground to a halt because of the parked nearside cars. Many drivers did a U turn to find an alternative route. My wife was stuck for half an hour before managing to creep into a parking space near the Mosque. She walked home and asked me to go and get it. I`m just back but getting along that 400 yard stretch took me over 10 mins, which is farcical.

A neighbour walking his dog told me the police were in attendance but did nothing. He suggested that this was because they`re afraid of being labelled racist. I told him they can`t do anything as most of the cars are legally parked. A few were parked with 2 wheels on the pavement. Ironically, this is where it was relatively easy to make progress when I was driving home.

It`s not the fault of the Muslim community - it`s this daft pavement parking ban. When all the cars of those attending the Mosque partially parked on the pavement, there was ample room left for prams and wheelchairs and the road was passable with care.

Anyone know how/where we can register a complaint with Fife Council?

there was a funeral today. Seen plenty online comments advocating "put bacon on the door handles"

Cheers, PuP. It`s usually quite busy on Fridays. Said to the missus "It`s only Thursday today." She didn't correct me. 😃

Even allowing for the fact that today`s an unusual occurrence, this pavement parking ban is just nuts. The number of folk whose parked cars have been damaged already is considerable. Broken wing mirrors and scratched and dented down one side are the most common. Buses stuck because they can`t get through as folk have parked on both sides.

A campaign of civil disobedience sounds good to me. 🙄

Unfortunately, it IS the fault of Mosque attendees. There`s a car park around the back (a pretty big one) and I usually see people parking on the streets around the Mosque on a Friday.

It`s not just people attending the mosque though. There are vans parked at narrow points on the road causing people to stop and wait to pass. They`re perfectly legally parked but a nuisance.

In yesterdays instance the Carpark was required for the Funeral car and access which is outside of the norm.

Double parking on streets is going to cause accidents too.
A lady nearly hit me on Townhill Road today. We both came to a standstill. There was room for her to be further over but couldn’t or wouldn’t move. I had a passenger in the car who witnessed the whole thing. Going by the speed she was doing, it wasn’t a cautious driver. I’m seeing this more and more. Insurance premiums will be higher for sure.

Welcome to the daily struggle of being a truck driver……missed taking off a wing mirror this morning due to space left between parked cars, doubt the larger motors would get through.

Car driving standards have dropped massively since Covid as well. People think they own the roads and have to be first in line. Had one guy yesterday refuse to let me out in roadworks in my car from a junction (yes I know technically he didn’t need to) because he was just rude - turns out he missed the lights anyway and had to sit in front of me on the red 😂

How theres not more accidents these days is beyond me. They repainted the Morrisons roundabout in Cowden last month - other day seen two near misses within 2 mins of each other because of bad driving.

It doesn`t matter how big that car park is, Jake. I doubt very much that nobody parked there before the funeral, but even if it was completely empty, there`s no way it could have accommodated all the cars lining Woodmill Rd. There must have been around 100 vehicles when I picked up my car and there would have been others parked in Woodmill Crescent. I`ve known buses to get stuck there before on Fridays and that was when they could park with 2 wheels on the pavement.

ETA. Hadn't seen PuP's post.

If the car park was closed and it was obvious there would be lots of attendees, why not do what people do at weddings and run a bus from somewhere with more parking?

The issue isn`t unique to the mosque though. Driving around places like Abbeyview is a nightmare now due to parking on both sides. I`m amazed the buses are able to get round. This is an issue caused by stupidity and selfishness rather than the council. People should never have been parking on the pavement in the first place (unless leaving a decent gap) but now all they do is block the road by parking there. Perhaps one potential solution would be for the council to reduce the charge for a drop kerb so people can park within their own property rather than on the road?

I doubt that would have crossed the minds of any of those attending the funeral, Jake. A wedding reception isn`t a good analogy. You invite folk and they reply, so you know almost exactly how many will be attending. Funeral attendance is often dependent on friends and relatives of the deceased spreading the word.

It`s not helped by some folk parking a la Annie Hall, a good 30 - 60 cm from the kerb, making it even harder for larger vehicles to squeeze through, Jake. I still think the council could/ should have used the 2 years since it was informed that this legislation was coming into force, to paint lines on pavements which are wide enough to leave enough space for prams and wheelchairs to pass and allow cars to park with two wheels on the kerb, which can make all the difference. AFAIK, the council don`t charge for dropping the kerb. It never happened to me when I had mine widened to allow a second car to park in my drive. I hope I don`t get a delayed demand now. 😃

Fife Council and common sense don`t go together. Unfortunately, neither does the general public and common sense. Just saw a photo of a car that managed to both park on the pavement AND block the road in Abbeyview.

I used your link to register my frustration with this ban and it`s been passed on to Fife`s Transport Parking Management Team, Ipswich. I`ll let you know how I get on.

No reply from the TPMT, Ipswich, despite the Council`s promise that they will reply to all complaints within 5 - 10 days. I did suggest that the TPMT should consider allowing partial parking on pavements that are wide enough to allow this while still leaving enough room for prams and wheelchairs.

It would appear that there`s no going back..... 😒

Its not surprising that the Council didn’t get back to you, as they are completely useless.

Had a big bit of Bridge St in Cowdenbeath resurfaced two weeks ago, the main road in from the A92, and it has more pot holes in it now than it did 3 weeks ago……and the councillor was clueless about how shoddy the work was till 2 days ago 😂

Until there is loss of life nothing will be done. Then there will be the usual, platitudes , pledgtes that lessons will be learned, enquiries, reviews that enrich lawyers at huge axoayers expaese & at the end of the day nothing happens. To quote James Hetfield "Sad But True"
