I doubt that this will be anywhere near the best so I was interested in your oldest thing in your respective larders and what the offending item is? No prizes except manky kudos. Reply |

| 4. Author: buffy Date: Mon 10th Nov 2025. 20:01 Not food in my case but a tub of germolene. Summer 2022, I’d stood on a (poor) bee 🐝 and applied a liberal dose of Mither’s “remedy”. Then clocked the date on the underside of the tub - 1986. Me = deid ”Buffy’s Buns are the finest in Fife”, J. Spence 2019” Post Edited (Mon 10 Nov 20:02) Reply |

Luckily I think out worst was only 3 or 4 years old at worst and was maybe a ready meal pasta or something Reply |

The Dutch brought it back to Europe, replaced the Avocados with egg yolk and hey presto! The thing ye learn on dot net! Reply |

| 9. Author: NMCmassive Date: Wed 12th Nov 2025. 20:09 About 10 years ago we were drinking (proper drinking 😬) while staying at my wife’s parents. Me and my BIL. Back from the pub, scudded a bottle of cognac. I remember looking at it like - that bottle looks old. It was a soviet era bottle that was still unopened until my BIL started hunting for more drink 🤦🏻♂️ if I remember right it had 1987 as a manufactured date on the bottle. In fairness, it still worked COYP Reply |
| 10. Author: red-star-par Date: Wed 12th Nov 2025. 20:19 I remember at a wedding at the Garvock House Hotel a good few years ago being on the bottles of Holsten Pils. I happened to glance at the label and noticed the Best Before was over 14 months ago, as were the other bottles on the table. I took them back to the bar, and the wee smiley faced Portuguese man (who latterly worked in the FSC) apologised profusely. To try and resolve the matter he did offer me my money back or the rest of the out of date bottles. I accepted the latter, tasted fine Reply |

Author: twin par Date: Wed 12th Nov 2025. 21:03 Best before dates are ok.Only thing that happens is quality is lost or flavour is slightly impaired.Sell by is totally different, which includes perishable goods, cheeses, meats, eggs etc.Tinned goods ,unless damaged, will keep for years. There was a Portuguese guy who owned it with his wife but they would also get seasonal workers from Portugal - as well as other European countries like. We got married there. I never looked at the use by dates of anything tho COYP Reply |
