The regularity of the fairly substantial flaring penalties would play part in the decision. Just under £200k last month and almost £1mil for a worker injury. Local council pursuing compensation to residents etc... Same councilors will now be demanding enquiry into why they are leaving the site

Councillors haven’t once been round the doors asking residents about the place and Ive lived nearby for 6 years 😂 they couldn’t care less but now that 400 jobs are going they are all panicking.

They were loving it when Exxon were forced into £140m in changes to the flares then getting fines for them flaring - which only produced a low humming noise……now all be sh*tting it at the thought of losing residents votes.

The £1m fine wasn`t Exxon.

However, the various fines they got were down to their own incompetence and rightly charged.

Obviously sad to see them close up shop but it doesn`t seem likely it`d make any difference in terms of them closing.

Won`t there still be flaring with the Shell side still operating?

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Scotland will soon be the only oil and gas producing nation on earth with no refinery or NLG/LNG facilities. St Fergus will be next.

Better Together anyone ?

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Yes.
“Shell, which processes natural gas liquids on the Mossmorran site, said it was unaffected by the closure.
Its operations at St Fergus in Aberdeenshire, which provides natural gas to the Exxon Mobil facility at Mossmorran, were also unaffected, it added.”
