Author: GG Riva Date: Thu 22nd Jan 2026. 15:29 I`m maybe getting soft in my old age, but think it`s pretty Baltic this afternoon, with that snell wind coming off the North Sea, so I donned the full monty when I picked up my 6 year old granddaughter from school. I was amused to see two brave blokes wearing shorts. 🥶 I couldn`t help wondering if the fact that both lads were sporting tatoos on their legs is significant. 🤔 ![]() Not your average Sunday League player. Only time you’ll find me in trousers is at work (have to 🙄), at the football or out for a day sesh in jeans (which is barely ever now)! Obviously events like weddings etc are a must, but think Ive only worn trousers twice in the last 12 months outside of those times, and thats cause its been baltic and not having the car for the school run 😂 It’s just comfier and if you’re pretty warm blooded you don’t feel it. | 3. Author: parsfan Date: Thu 22nd Jan 2026. 17:26 For some it will be. I remember an interview with Big John (Exploited, Goodbye Mr McKenzie) about 25-30 years ago and he said he wore shorts to show off his tattoos. I`m year round too. No tatts. There was a mid-week game against The Rovers when we were getting to go back to games again after lockdown. That was the first time since the last day in the office, over 18 months beforehand, that I`d worn long trousers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The universe is ruled by chance and indifference ![]() Reply |

| 6. Author: red-star-par Date: Thu 22nd Jan 2026. 20:43 The wearing of shorts during the colder weather seems to be quite a new thing. Never used to happen before. It does seem to be a thing now, among older, uglier blokes. Every single one of them, you can tell is a total w@nk. They have gone out there, feeling that they are totally unimportant these days, and put on shorts to make themselves seem relevant and get noticed. It`s sad AF Reply |

| 11. Author: Playup_Pompey Date: Fri 23rd Jan 2026. 15:27 no tats on me and always in shorts. Nothing worse than being caught in rain in jeans that are heavy/damp and stick to you. just wipe the water off your legs and on you go. Reply |

| 13. Author: jake89 Date: Fri 23rd Jan 2026. 16:29 I always assumed it`s because you can buy shorts in larger waist sizes that don`t need taken up like trousers. That or you work for the Royal Mail. Reply |

Author: GG Riva Date: Sat 24th Jan 2026. 07:54 Dave_1885, Thu 22 Jan 16:29 You must be quite young if you`re "warm blooded", Dave. 🤔 We`re all warm blooded, of course, but as we get older, our circulation isn`t as good, so we feel the cold much more. I used to go out running in shorts and T-shirt all year round. Now, cold weather sees me wearing a long sleeve top over my T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms, a woolly hat and thick gloves - I call that the Full Monty. 😄 I remember going out for a run, in T-shirt and shorts, in freezing fog many moons ago, and not feeling the cold. Mrs Riva started laughing at me when I got home. I was bemused. "Look in the mirror," she said. I had more hair back then. The tuft at the front had frozen in a vertical position away from my forehead. "You look like Tin Tin." she laughed. ![]() Not your average Sunday League player. Reply |

Author: Dave_1885 Date: Sat 24th Jan 2026. 08:01 GG Riva, Sat 24 Jan 07:54 Mid 30s GG so wouldn’t claim its that young 😂 but the reference would more allude to being too hot in the summer, and not too cold in the winter! Still have to wrap up the top half mind you, but the legs don’t feel the cold so much. Reply |
| 17. Author: GG Riva Date: Sat 24th Jan 2026. 11:38 Mid 30s, Dave? Trust me, that`s very young. 😁 Everything is relative, as Uncle Albert once said. I`m more than double your age, so my blood must be quite watery by now, but it didn`t stop me getting out for a very pedestrian 4 mile run over a flat route this morning. I was very glad of the extra layers when I was running into that wind. 🥶 ![]() Not your average Sunday League player. Reply |
