It appears that if a single hour has more than 30% chance of rain it gets marked rain (not sure how the 70% feels about that... clearly two tier meteorologising). And if one hour has this chance of rain, then the whole day seems to get that assigned. Over the last 4 weeks, if I had followed the BBC app I`m not sure I would have left the house much. The UK Rain Radar site seems to be quite good if you try and extrapolate the observed records with what is forecast. Kept me inside and dry this morning at least. Reply |

We’ve just been lucky we’re living in an extended period of pretty consistent and stable weather. Up until around 12,000 years ago the weather was much more volatile. Much hotter. Much colder.
