5. Author: Raymie the Legend Date: Sun 19th Jul 2026. 06:19 A quite superb achievement. The fact that the record has stood for so long just adds more kudos. Josh started at Meadowbank, alongside my nephew, who was the best in the UK in his teens at 400m. Josh went to college in the USA and the rest is history now. My nephew chose to play rugby and was a very decent and quick winger, capped at junior level and international level in the sevens format. ![]() It`s bloody tough being a legend Ron Atkinson - 1983 Reply

7. Author: wee eck Date: Sun 19th Jul 2026. 14:16 The mile has iconic status for Brits because of the Roger Bannister/sub 4 minute connection and I think that`s what inspired Josh. His preparation was meticulous and he even targeted a time of 3 mins 42.66 secs. He would sit in an ice bath for exactly that time as part of his training! Reply

11. Author: pars4life1 Date: Mon 3rd Aug 2026. 15:27 Congratulations to him but I do wonder why heβs trying to set records at an unconventional race distance? Hopefully he can start doing it at 1500m and make a mark on the world stage and not just a handful of countries that use a weird measurement system. Reply

Author: alwaysaPar Date: Mon 3rd Aug 2026. 17:04 pars4life1, Mon 3 Aug 15:27 Just because the mile doesn`t feature in your Olympics and World Championships doesn`t make it unconventional There a lots of mile races throughout the athletics calendar and they decided long ago to keep calling it a mile as not to confuse the lesser Athletics minded public with 1600m and 1500m.... | 13. Author: wee eck Date: Mon 3rd Aug 2026. 18:01 The world record attempt was obviously a one-off to recognise the British connection to the mile and challenge a record which had stood for a generation. The choice of having a mile race in the Commonwealth Games would be down to the organisers. I understand the first CG after Roger Bannister`s sub four minute mile in 1954 also staged a mile race so there was a precedent. The women`s equivalent race this year was also run over a mile I think. JK has run many 1500m races over the years and I`m sure he`ll continue to do so. Reply |
14. Author: alwaysaPar Date: Mon 3rd Aug 2026. 20:09 Definitely not a one off, 3 out of the 7 diamond league meetings each year are mile races , the other 4 are 1500mtr As the prize money for breaking world records in the diamond league is significant there have been a number of attempts to break it over the years without success Josh Kerr, as he showed in his indoor season, is in the form of his life also and the way his training plan worked , he knew he would be able to have a go at the record in London Reply
15. Author: Paralex Date: Mon 3rd Aug 2026. 22:16 Not only were they demeaning him by suggesting he was British ( tongue in cheek) they doubled the insult by making out he was a Glaswegian!!! But, yes, I think he made us all a bit prouder. Reply
