Author: hurricane_jimmy Date: Tue 18th Aug 2026. 00:08 Natural events do affect climate change (volcanic eruptions particularly) but not on the same scales as we`re seeing now, however to claim that the CO2 in the atmosphere and it`s increase since the industrial revolution are not having an effect on climate and healthy is so unbelievably stupid. | 22. Author: NMCmassive Date: Wed 19th Aug 2026. 23:13 hurricane_jimmy, Tue 18 Aug 00:08 I’ll explain it as clearly as I can. Atmospheric CO2 is currently about 0.042% (420–430 ppm). It was less than 300ppm pre-industrial revolution. Plants use CO2 for photosynthesis - it’s basically plant food. Since C02 has increased, so has the amount of plants and trees worldwide. Satellite measurements from 1982–2015 found that roughly 35% of the world’s vegetated land showed significant increases in leaf area. Basically the world is greener so we’re seeing more biological activity and carbon uptake. Did you know we’re still officially exiting an ice age? If you want to be really anal about it, it’s described as “an interglacial period within the current ice age” Using ice core samples, scientists know there have been periods of cooling and warming that were vastly more intense than temperature changes we’re seeing today. Sometimes with C02, sometimes without. So as I said, of course 8 billion of us are having an effect but to claim we’re the main driver is disingenuous in my opinion, especially given the evidence of the earths past. There’s a huge industry around climate change now and it’s got to make money to feed itself. Which funnily enough renewables/green energy/carbon neutral is now being backed by all O&G and petrochemical industries… cos there’s money in it. BTW, the ice core samples showing the temperature variations are wild. Really interesting. COYP Reply |
