Apologies if I`ve posted about herring gulls before.

Can anyone tell me why they`re a protected species? I know they help by eating any food that people throw away, but Dunfermline is more like a seaside town than Brighton or Blackpool, with so many of these blighters swirling around, looking for an easy meal at all hours of the day and some of the night, too.

It wouldn`t be so bad if they did it quietly, but no, they have to squawk as loudly as they can and over each other to see who can squawk the loudest and longest. During the hot spell, we tried to sleep with the windows open. I had to get up and shut them just after 3 am, when it`s still pitch dark. Even double glazing doesn`t keep their piercing racket out.

Why can`t they just stay in Arbroath and catch some herring for their dinner? Much healthier than half eaten pies or burghers. 🤪

Need to be reclassified as a nuisance. Get them shot out the air. Theres one in the Glen thats a nightmare, chases everyone and anything for food.

In the words of Joni Mitchell:

Don`t it always seem to go
That you don`t know what you`ve got
Till it`s gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

I guess we’re seeing more urban Gulls because we’ve driven them from their natural habitat.

Its the Cushie Doo`s here .. they are every where and seem to mate all year round
When I was a Laddie many many years ago you could not get within 100 yards of a Cushie as the were shot on a regular basis .. hence the way they used to fly in a zig zag to avoid the pellets .. Now they sit on the fence and I can almost touch them before they fly away .. We even had one in the house !! I`m listening to them right now as I post this
