Scotland are European champions skipped by Grant Hardie, beating Italy in the final. The women lost the bronze medal match to Latvia.

Used to watch Eve Muirhead at the PEAK near Stirling - just endless practicing lay up shots to an identified target area.

Such skill.

She chose curling over professional golf career opportunities apparently.

She sometimes commentated on golf on the radio. I thought she`d decided to return to curling after retiring.

Yes, indeed - she has switched to mixed doubles with Bobbie Lammie, another curling star.

Didn`t even know there was such an event - always thought it was a 4 player team sport.

Every day is a learning day.

There were other changes in the European Championships last week. Instead of the usual 10 teams playing each other in a `round robin` with the top four qualifying for the semi-finals, there were 12 teams split into two groups of 6 and the winners and runners-up in each group qualified for the semi-finals. Also, matches were decided over 8 ends instead of the traditional 10. I don`t know if these changes will also apply in the World Championships and Olympics.

Met Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat at a works event last summer. Nice people who had time for a chat.
