His family said he died peacefully on Wednesday to the sound of jazz music at his care home, where he had been living with Alzheimer`s.” I didn’t realise he had this awful disease. 3. Author: red-star-par Date: Thu 21st Nov 2024. 13:36 He was a proper political heavyweight from a time when people were in it for the right reasons. Played a huge role in making sure the unions were on board with the New Labour movement. RIP Reply |

7. Author: The One Who Knocks Date: Fri 22nd Nov 2024. 18:32 You are of course quite correct Buspass. I`m not sure if I`d go as far as saying he was a great man as that is indeed high praise but I think New Labour actually did a great deal of good for the nation (the NHS would be in a far sorrier state if not for the massive investment that took place in the 2000s, minimum wage etc) and the Iraq war was a lot more nuanced than the `not in my name` brigade made out and John Prescott was a huge part of the government during that era. Very much a no nonsense character and, as much as a politician can be, a straight talking man. And although my eyes were open They just might as well be closed Reply |
