It would be remiss not to mention the latest scandal besetting the UK government. This one`s got everything - gross incompetence in the release of confidential information about Afghans who had helped British forces in their country, a delay of over a year before Ministers were made aware of the leak, an application for an injunction to prevent media disclosure which was granted as a `superinjunction` which meant the public and parliament didn`t even know an injunction was in place.

The Afghanistan Response Route was devised to help those whose details had been released come to the UK with their dependants. The cost likely to be incurred is conservatively estimated at £850m. There`s no guarantee that those named in the leaked documents who are still in Afghanistan won`t be subject to investigation and pressure from the Taliban. As far as is known the personal responsible for the original leak is still employed by the MoD.

You missed that both speakers (house and lords) were informed, so that should a member use start to use parliamentary provenance to raise it ( if they found out), the speaker would be able to identify and stop them

Shipping around 30k data points on an unprotected spreadsheet.

And they are still in a government job after costing the UK tax payer all that money, no doubt with their gold plated pension. Unbelievable.

Barings Law (who I believe is raising some of these cases) state

"One thing binds us all – we’re determined to make justice accessible to all."

So they definitely aren`t in it for the money.

As in all these scandals, more information comes out later. It seems the leaked information included details of British Special Forces and members of the secret services.

Peston giving it large on ITV News!
