In the BBC sights now regarding council tax on a houseboat, the dragging down is starting.

Strange that other politicians backhanders aren`t investigated?

Lets start with Farage and the 5 million payment!

Seems like an honest mistake that he has accepted as his responsibility and has vowed to rectify very soon (if he hasn`t already.)

By contrast, Nigel is going to keep the £5million and will continue responding with agressive entitlement whenever he is offered the opportunity for transparacy on this and many other matters.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Yep this is nothing compared to the Farage scandal which just to reiterate involves him accepting £5m from a crypto billionaire.
Has Polanski though at least paid council tax on one of his residences? If so then I can see this being an honest mistake.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

I think he is claiming he was paying council tax as part of the monthly rent of the room, while spending most of his time on the boat.

It shouldn`t be anything to do with the Farage case (which, funnily enough) is actually tax compliant as mental as it is.

This whataboutery needs to stop. If this clown is going to lecture us all on what is right and wrong, he needs to be held to those standards himself.

It is pretty obvious to me he should have been paying council tax. And if you have 2 properties, you can`t get away with just paying one set of council tax. I haven`t researched but I am pretty sure there will be evidence where he has wanted those with multiple properties to be paying a lot more council tax. Hypocrite.

Farage to be investigated by Commons standards watchdog over claim he broke rules by not declaring £5m gift
Nigel Farage will be investigated by the Commons standards watchdog over the revelation that he did not disclose a £5m donation from the crypt billionaire Christopher Harborne that he received shortly before the 2024 election, the BBC is reporting.

BREAKING from @ChrisMasonBBC

The BBC understands that the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner has decided to begin an inquiry into whether the Reform leader Nigel Farage has breached the House of Commons Code of Conduct over accepting a £5m gift and not declaring it

I`m not sure council tax is within the remit of the Parliamentary Standards Committee. No doubt the Mail and Express and their readers will think it shoould be though. I was simply reporting what`s happening.

One might have thought a party leader would know what the rules were on council tax when staying at multiple residences (also the rules on electoral registration), particularly after recent events, and would be keen to be, and be seen to be, compliant.

It seems there are many other people in the same boat, as it were, having registered addresses at that marina, but who have not paid their tax either (although it appears that the mooring conditions precluded permanent residence). I wonder if they will all get a bill for arrears?

As for Farage, for a story that’s allegedly hidden, it’s getting a lot of air-time. I think he’s stood for election (to Europe and Westminster) 14 times, but he just happened to get the gift when he had temporarily retired.

Again, one might have thought that in the interests of transparency he would have fessed up, but he claims he is in no doubt that he didn’t need to. We shall see.

Yeah Farages story doesn’t make sense. He’s F’d it. I’m not expecting politicians to be whiter than white but I do expect them to be honest and the fact he’s trying to hide it-doesn’t look good.

Zak Polanski I don’t trust. The council tax story also doesn’t make sense. He’s no F’d it on the same scale as Farage but I don’t think he’s got enough of a profile for it not to be a problem for him

Has come out today that some of the £5m was used to purchase a house……a £1.4m house paid for in cash……thought the money was for private security? 🤔😂 bet he hasn’t paid the right tax on it either…

Meanwhile, Angela Raynor was cleared today by HMRC of any wrongdoing - will those who were furious with her apologise now?

I was never furious, but short answer is no.
Only good news for us is that’s at least she paid the additional £40k stamp duty that she had earlier tried to avoid paying.

She was just another poor appointment by a poor PM

She has done well to avoid paying a penalty or 8% interest on the underpayment.

I wonder how many others ended up with this outcome.
