Author: Dandy Warhol Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 08:43 Not surprised there hasn`t been a thread on this topic as it involves the total archie collapse by virtue signalling lefties with no substance, the Piddington population having previously waved refugees welcome signs, just not welcome near them. Also, interesting change of narrative, if a poor area has concerns about immigration it`s smeared as "far right" but now it`s folks with a bit money they`re plucky underdogs who fought back. I reckon there`ll be a big shift in tone now wealthier people are affected. Turns out they ASKED to be a sanctuary village🤣 I don`t wanna go down like disco. Post Edited (Thu 17 Sep 09:29) Reply |

| 4. Author: ipswichpar Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 10:01 I agree. I just don`t understand what we do with them practically if we don`t have anywhere to put them. Scuttling the boats at sea seems a little excessive. God knows what is going on under the hood of students coming in, but I don`t imagine they are all paying 30k a year in student fees and then leaving the country immediately after course completion. I dread to think how much lawyers are making off the back of fighting these cases too. Net migration to the UK - Migration Observatory Reply |

I`m more angry at the narrative, rich people "air genuine concerns" whilst poor areas are labelled "Far Right". The left has no substance other than name calling and arguing what a woman is, they`re eating themselves. I don`t wanna go down like disco. Reply |
| 6. Author: ipswichpar Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 12:17 Are they only for rape attacks or for personal safety? They aren`t new, and have been around for a while. I bought some for my daughters and that was before immigration spiked. I think it was not long after the white guy round the corner murdered the lady who turned him down. I`m still not seeing a practical solution to stopping the boats other than sinking the boats or stopping aid to any countries that are refusing to take folk back we want to deport. Reform councils down here have employed 6 folk to walk around three town centres between 10am and 6pm through private security firms. Hopefully any crime will be limited to that time. Reply |

Author: wee eck Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 12:43 Did anyone see the documentary `England `til I Die` last night about the small Sussex town of Crowborough where a disused army camp housed `illegal immigrants`? A group of locals harangued three guys as they left the camp to walk into the town, telling them in no uncertain terms they were not wanted, etc. It turned out they were heading for a Christian place of worship. There was also a `non-white` woman who had lived in the town for years who was frightened to go out now as she feared she would be assumed to be an `immigrant` just because of her appearance. It was reminiscent of the lynch nob mentality of the Wild West. shoot first and ask questions later, Reply |
| 8. Author: Indiapar1 Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 13:53 I think this goes back to Tony Blairs policy announcement circa 2001 for purpose built asylum accommodation centres for approx 3000 places nationally. The Piddington site had been identified not long after and at the time it was proposed to house up to 750 migrants (families and single men). Piddington had historically supported humanitarian assistance to asylum seekers, but I believe that accommodation on such a large scale was opposed at the time; a petition being lodged with parliament. The petition cited planning concerns very similar to the situation today. This was overruled by the government, however, the plan was abandoned circa 2005 as the number of asylum seekers had fallen. From what I can gather, the current intent is materially different from the 2001-2003 plan. The District Council stated they were not consulted (the govt submitting an Urgent Crown Development application for a change of use for 10 years) and the intent is to house up to 1250 single adult males rather than up to 750 in the previous scheme. I personally think that Piddington is the symptom not the cause. My worry is why approximately 25 years later effective systems have not been put in place to effectively manage migration, asylum claims and deportation. Like working class people can’t be hardworking and respectful, they can only be far right whatever’s… It must be said but actually the Rwanda plan although very unorganised was a deterrent had it been implemented. I also think that had it been an issue we were dealing with, the likelihood that people take it upon themselves to attempt something would be much lower. COYP Post Edited (Thu 17 Sep 14:05) Reply |
| 10. Author: Indiapar1 Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 14:19 I believe the site is a former MoD warehouse storage and distribution site. To change to accommodation for up to 1250 individuals will require pretty substantial contruction works (I believe modular buildings with retention of an existing building is proposed), but upgrades to infrastructure such as water, power, telecoms and sewage will be needed as well as the usual demolition. Without knowing the site, this could be a 2-3 year construction period with all the site investigations, design, mobilisation, construction and infrastructure works required. It could also be very disruptive with construction vehicle movements and all other activities associated with the development (noise, dust, roadworks, utility upgrades etc.) It might be expensive to construct (one of the reasons it was shelved in 2005) unless at the end of it you can convert the site back to another MoD use. | 12. Author: jake89 Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 14:40 It`s not racist or right wing to flag concerns about safety. What`s wrong is to tar everyone with the same brush. It`s hard not to though when the government doesn`t seem to be doing checks on people and isn`t adequately ensuring the safety of UK citizens or immigrants. As much as it`s unacceptable that women and girls are being told to keep off streets, imagine what it`s like if you`re in a hotel with a person with obvious violent tendencies. Why aren`t we doing proper assessments on people? Reply |
| 13. Author: ipswichpar Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 15:20 Because our civil service is an absolute cluster****. I don`t think i have encountered such a large scale, chronic "can`t be arsed" jobsworth approach anywhere else in society. I`m thinking that Rwanda scheme would have reduced these numbers much more quickly that what we have seen. Reply |
| 14. Author: jake89 Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 17:30 The Rwanda scheme was unworkable. The excuse for not having adequate processing facilities seems to be the time it would take to build. Nothing will change unless someone starts! Reply |
| 15. Author: ipswichpar Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 18:11 How could we previously process them in days but now it is taking months or years? I`m not sure Rwanda was unworkable. I`m pretty sure that it would have driven demand towards zero, which was the intent I think, not simply to make a swamped process more efficient. Reply |
| 16. Author: NMCmassive Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 19:46 ipswichpar, Thu 17 Sep 18:11 Yeah I kinda agree. It’s not unworkable, they just didn’t organise or go through the correct process. We really need to be stronger as a nation on things like that - everyone else will push their own agendas when it suits them and we should as well. COYP Reply |
| 17. Author: Dave_1885 Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 21:04 The Rwanda deal was a Tory soundbite to distract from the facts they were doing sod all to improve the processing of asylum seekers. Just like Reforms idea of sending the Navy into the channel. Let the balaclava wearers enter the sea to stop the boats - if they get in trouble, keep the RNLI onshore, if they tip a dinghy and murder people, charge every single one of them the minute they step back on shore. | 18. Author: ipswichpar Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 21:57 I think it was more than a soundbite, and we have asylum organisations and some unions for making it walk through treacle through the courts, and preventing us from ever knowing if it would have worked or not. Reply |

Author: P Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 21:59 Dave_1885, Thu 17 Sep 21:04 Yeah I got that impression too, a dying government coming out with sound bites To get attention not realising they may have had a germ of an idea but didn’t bother actually giving it substance. Might as well have announced national service for all immigrants as a hopeful vote winning dog whistle. Reply |
| 20. Author: jake89 Date: Thu 17th Sep 2026. 22:19 The Rwanda scheme was clear nonsense and a complete and utter waste of money. The simple solution is to have PROPER processing in the UK. As I said above, it would take a while but you will never finish if you don`t start. Surely accommodation could be put together pretty quickly so that processing takes place at a handful of locations? Build the equivalent of budget hotels or pre-fab structures like they used a while back in the Edinburgh festival (easily reusable). Reply |
