Way back, when I played in the charity match at EEP, I ran full pelt, shoulder first, into Ross Jack - who wasn’t particularly known for being hard - I bounced off and landed on my erchie, didn’t make a dent, he was absolutely solid! Professional sportsmen are a different level. Reply |

There are some weird and wonderful suggestions from fans on the BBC Sport website as to who they would like to see replace him - Duncan Ferguson, Barry Robson, Derek McInnes, Tony Docherty, Scott Brown, Tam Courts, Peter Leven, Neil Warnock (!), James McFadden. 24. Author: wee eck Date: Wed 29th Jan 2025. 09:15 According to the Courier the reason Sam Stanton wanted away from Raith Rovers was online abuse directed at him and his family. It started after the promotion play-offs last season apparently and he wasn`t happy with how the club tackled it. Reply |
25. Author: jake89 Date: Wed 29th Jan 2025. 11:07 I`ll put my hands up, I`m sure I`ve posted on here saying someone`s rubbish. It`s frustration. I`m not seeking to justify my own actions but would suggest players and managers should expect these reactions. Sport is an emotional thing. However, persistent abuse online and people being abused in the street or via their family is disgraceful and simply isn`t on. Reply |

Now categorised in criminal form (not just at the extreme end) and can result in prison time. My heart goes out to anyone experiencing this form (and any kind) of harassment including sports frontmen and their families. ”Buffy’s Buns are the finest in Fife”, J. Spence 2019” Reply |

28. Author: McCaig`s Tower Date: Wed 29th Jan 2025. 21:57 Some interesting (surprising) names there as potential successors. I was trying to categorise where we have recruited our managers from (in my lifetime). Obviously there are different ways of doing this (and some overlap – I think Bert Paton fits into three of them) but generally the choice is: Internally – perhaps for continuity, sometimes the cheap option (Cunningham, Leishman, Munro, Campbell, McIntyre, Potter, Crawford) Give someone a chance to step up: maybe a coach or assistant elsewhere (Stein, Scott, Paton) or someone showing promise at a supposedly smaller team (Farm, Melrose, Stanton, Grant, Tidser) Experienced in Scotland (Wright, Paton, Hay, Leishman, Jeffries, Johnson, Hughes, McPake) or overseas “left-field” (Calderwood, Kenny) A big name – you never know, they might be brilliant (Forsyth, Stanton to an extent) A former Par – recapture the halcyon days if anyone can remember them (Miller, but also Cunningham, Melrose, Leishman, Paton, Campbell, McIntyre, Potter, Crawford). Often it will depend on where you are in the table and your perceived standing – do you need a short-term fix, or can you afford a long-term plan? Which teams are weeer than you? And usually it will depend on whether you can afford any compo. I’m not sure who is quoting the names mentioned (and there have been a few more), but some don’t seem to fit into any of the above categories. Reply |
29. Author: McCaig`s Tower Date: Wed 29th Jan 2025. 22:03 On the point about abuse - things have changed in that many forms of abuse are now seen as unacceptable (although I`m pretty sure I heard some homophobic abuse directed at the players at Airdrie on Saturday). But what abuse is acceptable? And does it ever help the team play better? I suspect that the easy availability of social media is a major factor. It is so easy to post abuse online with no immediate consequences. I`m pretty sure I sat behind the Chalmers family at Airdrie last season, and it was awkward at times - particularly as Uncle Joe was subbed at half-time, and his family felt they had to see out the game.
