So no McCann -a big miss, I thought with a surprise recall for O’Halloran who seemed completely out of favour a couple of months ago, and Otoo moved to LWB to accommodate Hamilton in midfield. TOB back on the bench, no sign of Stevens, Tod, Chalmers or Rivaldo. We made a promising start, albeit briefly, after Thistle chose to play the wrong way – I hate it when teams do that – but we failed to trouble their keeper. Meanwhile Tobi made 2 good blocks when I expected the net to bulge. We had two farcical episodes when firstly we stubbornly refused to clear our lines and then when Tobi recalled the shade of Lee Robinson by haring out of his goal twice, but we didn’t seem to decide whether to stick or twist – perhaps understandably in the circumstances, with a draw maybe, possibly being good enough and the idea that keeping Kane to play Airdrie might be wise. What was slightly odder was Partick’s seeming acceptance of a point – maybe they reckoned that would be a good result, particularly after the gubbing we inflicted on them at Firhill. I think we had one shot on target, and that was in the last minute – at least Spoony hit the target after fluffing a half-chance earlier, but yet another game without a goal - I think we are now the lowest scorers in Scottish senior football. I know it’s that stage of the season but it’s remarkable how many of our players either seem to be not quite fit, playing out of position or not good enough in the first place. I don’t think it’s as if you need top players in every position, just competent players with a sprinkling of class that can turn a game. Although to be objective drawing at home with a top-four side is not terrible. Is the pitch as bad as alleged? It’s not great but there are plenty much worse pitches in the lower leagues. Hamilton managed to play 90 minutes without being booked. In the old days he’d have had more disciplinary points than his Academical namesakes. Kane did see yellow, a little harshly I thought compared to other offences, which hamstrung his game a little. I was concerned about the possibility of losing him for a play-off, but that fear seems to have receded. One good ball from Wanyama – is that enough to get him on the pitch? A brief cameo from Cooper, but he is in danger of becoming an impact player at most. KRH coming on was a worthy try to get something more, but the system doesn’t suit him (or Comrie for that matter). I’m not sure where all these new players are going to come from all of a sudden. The analytics route has not impressed – is it going to be the old-fashioned method of splashing cash we won’t get back? Is that a long term solution? Post Edited (Sun 20 Apr 15:57) Reply |

We’ve already lost 3-0 to Airdrie and they might be tempted to go for it. People will remember Rugby Park when we looked like we’d snatched relegation from the jaws of survival until JJ subbed Stevie Murray. I don`t want a repeat of that anxiety. Reply |

Perhaps young and bray the only ones who were regularly performing and watched when brought in. Yeboah has played for Donny but god knows how. Lenny wouldn’t be staying if he’s not getting a big say in who we sign next year something Tidser didn’t get in January that’s for sure.
