Yep, that`s what he was before we made him a CEO for some daft reason. He`s been hopeless at that unsurprisingly.

Just get rid of him completely and put it down to yet another terrible appointment.

There are probably some dot net users who genuinely do have the required knowledge, experience and skills (or transferable skills) for the role.

However, the salary is not fantastic considering the level of responsibility etc, and the need to be `on site` in person might put some people off. 🙃

I posted this back in March. I commented on the number of people we had in marketing/commercial and It`s still relevant.

It was obvious it was a well rehearsed interview. In the interest of balance, I`d like to pick up on some points.

We were told back in pre-season that we would get regular updates. Well it`s March now. Not my idea of regular. Again, we are promised this will be more frequent going forward. Let`s see.

Mr Cook advised that Pars fans should not be worried about another huge loss. We were told the same one year ago by GMBH. 7 months later they wanted out. Could we be looking at the same one year down the line?

Only two other clubs published their accounts for the same period - Partick recorded a loss of £152K and Queen`s Park a loss of £364K but Queen`s did move into their new stadium during this period. Compare these numbers to ours. I did not include Falkirk and Livi as they were in different leagues.

We have appointed Scott Gordon to the board. We are told that he comes as a Comms and Marketing expert. We already have Alister Burn - Head of Commercial and Chris Addison - Marketing Manager. David Cook was Chief Commercial Officer at Notts Forest. How many commercial/marketing people do we need? We can`t even sell out the Hospitality Boxes. How much are we paying for these guys? it`s been well stated from various that Mr Cook is on £160K. Let`s assume Alister and Chris take £100K between them and Scott will probably be on at least £75K - that`s £335K and probably conservative. Can a club in the Championship really support this expense?

Edit
I`ve just seen the Courier report that Raith made £48,295 for the 12 months to the end of May last year. Mr Cook said it was practically impossible to make a profit and maintain "sporting performance". Raith proved you can do both. For a long time they looked like they could win the league.

As someone who supports Dunfermline Athletic and also volunteers at the club, I get to see a bit of what goes on behind the scenes - and I think it’s important to give credit where it’s due.

Our Commercial Manager, Alisdair Burn, has done a great job in my opinion, even if much of his work goes unnoticed by the wider support. The fan zone has been a big success and has added a real buzz to matchdays. Securing a stadium sponsor while keeping the historic “East End Park” name - now the KDM Group East End Park — was no small feat. Getting Vertu to sponsor the away stand is another clear achievement, and the hospitality is consistently near full, which speaks volumes.

He’s also genuinely invested in improving the overall matchday experience, including things like the 50/50 tickets and other touches that help bring the club closer to the fans.

I’m not a happy clapper by any stretch, but I don’t think it’s fair when criticism is thrown around by those who aren’t aware of what’s actually happening behind the scenes. There’s a lot of positive work being done, and I think it deserves recognition.

I`ve said this a few times, but my concern is around the value added by having all these roles. I will always say you need to do things properly so should employ skilled marketing, contract, procurement etc professionals. However, we`re a pretty small organisation and it presumably hits a point where any gain from having dedicated pros in these positions is outweighed by their wages? We previously relied considerably on a lot of goodwill from volunteers, which isn`t ideal as they can leave when they please or may have periods where they can`t offer much of their time. However, it saves a bundle of cash!

Froma fan perspective it`s easy to point fingers. We don`t know what goes on. It`s easy to say "get a big money sponsor" or "introduce this new scheme". What is be interested in us who does what. As has been mentioned, there`s lots of people in the club with similar experience so who is actually responsible for what?

I feel as though David Cook could communicate a lot better. This has been identified and he has made a promise going forward that he will. I think we are managed way better than some other clubs of similar size. Look at St Johnstone for example. Sometimes you don’t realise what you’ve got till it’s gone. I’m pretty sure that whatever is written on these forums it gets back to them. This forum can be really negative times. I for one am optimistic about the season ahead. Ok I get what some are getting frustrated. As they say fortune comes to those who wait. Let’s hope the wait is worth it. Fingers crossed.

The kit launch situation is laughable. How do you plan an entire event around something you don’t physically have in your possession? It’s not just poor planning, it’s amateur hour. Any half competent organisation would wait until stock is confirmed and ready before even thinking about announcing a launch date. With it happening on a weekday surely they would know fans would have to make arrangements at work to accommodate coming along and to cancel with 24 hours notice is poor. If delays happen? Fine be upfront. Communicate it clearly and professionally and wait until you have actual stock before saying come along and buy one. Supporters will always back the club when they’re treated with honesty.
I have witnessed fans actively looking to support the club, trying to buy merchandise, only to be told there`s none available, and then watching the same item being handed out for free to others in Legends, asking again if she can buy one and told no. That’s the sort of thing that leaves a bitter taste. What message does that send? That some fans matter more than others?

Mixed messages, stock that mysteriously appears for some but not others shouldn`t happen at a community club. The fact fans actively want to give the club money and are being turned away empty handed and frustrated says it all.

At some point, someone needs to be held accountable. Whether it’s commercial, retail or higher up the chain, the constant missteps are costing the club both financially and reputationally. If you’re happy to soak up the praise when things go well, you can’t duck out of the firing line when they don’t.

The frustrating part is that fans want to engage, to spend money, to back the team – and the club keeps shooting itself in the foot. How many more chances do we give before something actually changes?

Classic case of one step forward, two steps back.

c'mon the pars

Hello Cammy, I do exactly what you say for global trade shows when we are still designing products. It is called planning and we make damn sure that our global development, design, logistics and business teams are all aligned, aware of their responsibilities and are all committed to delivery. This is highly complicated content we are dealing with and we deliver to global trade shows on time. On this topic I am at a genuine loss as to how this can go so badly.
So basically we also plan and commit to something we don’t have. It is actually quite normal to do this.

To be fair what happens on the pitch will be the main factor in determining how the match day experience was..

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.
