As someone who supports Dunfermline Athletic and also volunteers at the club, I get to see a bit of what goes on behind the scenes - and I think it’s important to give credit where it’s due.

Our Commercial Manager, Alisdair Burn, has done a great job in my opinion, even if much of his work goes unnoticed by the wider support. The fan zone has been a big success and has added a real buzz to matchdays. Securing a stadium sponsor while keeping the historic “East End Park” name - now the KDM Group East End Park — was no small feat. Getting Vertu to sponsor the away stand is another clear achievement, and the hospitality is consistently near full, which speaks volumes.

The kit launch situation is laughable. How do you plan an entire event around something you don’t physically have in your possession? It’s not just poor planning, it’s amateur hour. Any half competent organisation would wait until stock is confirmed and ready before even thinking about announcing a launch date. With it happening on a weekday surely they would know fans would have to make arrangements at work to accommodate coming along and to cancel with 24 hours notice is poor. If delays happen? Fine be upfront. Communicate it clearly and professionally and wait until you have actual stock before saying come along and buy one. Supporters will always back the club when they’re treated with honesty.
I have witnessed fans actively looking to support the club, trying to buy merchandise, only to be told there`s none available, and then watching the same item being handed out for free to others in Legends, asking again if she can buy one and told no. That’s the sort of thing that leaves a bitter taste. What message does that send? That some fans matter more than others?

Mixed messages, stock that mysteriously appears for some but not others shouldn`t happen at a community club. The fact fans actively want to give the club money and are being turned away empty handed and frustrated says it all.

At some point, someone needs to be held accountable. Whether it’s commercial, retail or higher up the chain, the constant missteps are costing the club both financially and reputationally. If you’re happy to soak up the praise when things go well, you can’t duck out of the firing line when they don’t.

The frustrating part is that fans want to engage, to spend money, to back the team – and the club keeps shooting itself in the foot. How many more chances do we give before something actually changes?

Classic case of one step forward, two steps back.

Hello Cammy, I do exactly what you say for global trade shows when we are still designing products. It is called planning and we make damn sure that our global development, design, logistics and business teams are all aligned, aware of their responsibilities and are all committed to delivery. This is highly complicated content we are dealing with and we deliver to global trade shows on time. On this topic I am at a genuine loss as to how this can go so badly.
So basically we also plan and commit to something we don’t have. It is actually quite normal to do this.

Surely there has to be a cut off point before an event like this. You don’t wait until 24 hours before launch to realise you’ve got no kit to launch. Surely you get on the phone to Erreà a week or 2 before and ask, "Right, where is it? When’s it arriving?" Then, if there’s a delay, you front up, be honest with the fans and say:

"Listen, there`s a delay. We`re disappointed too. Here`s the update and the new plan."

Instead, we got some half arsed statement saying there`s no kit, might be a bit rainy and windy so let`s all just pretend nothing was planned in the first place.

The worst part? I’m not even surprised anymore. These are the kind of avoidable errors we seem to specialise in at Dunfermline now.

Let’s not forget, when we signed with Erreà, David Cook himself said one of the key reasons was to avoid these issues we had with Joma. So either we were sold a lie or we’ve completely fumbled it again from our side.

How can you expect fans to keep the faith when this sort of thing becomes the norm?

What`s the point of speculating about the details of the delivery arrangements and then getting worked up about those details you just made up?

The strips weren`t available (or weren`t correct). They cancelled the event when it became clear.

Disappointing, slightly embarrassing maybe, but without other details it`s just not worth getting worked up about.

Kit should have been organised weeks before this honestly

Do people honestly think the club should have been sitting on a room full of kits in boxes for a fortnight before the event? Even for this idiot forum that`s a humdinger.

They`d have been promised delivery this week; they`d have been on the phone asking where the kits are on Wednesday; the supplier effed us. How difficult is it to grasp that? Unless you think David Cook is somehow responsible for the UK Errea suppliers as well.

Absolute rubbish. Ask any staff or Craig who’ll tell you they’ve had them for 3/4 weeks.

The delay is in the printing supplier, they never got the sponsor information from the club in time

The match day experience has not improved one bit in my opinion in fact it has remained stagnant in some areas and considerably worse in others

I wonder how much a competitive team would change the match day experience?

I do think the food needs updating

entry into the stadium can be tediously slow especially when they aren’t using all the available turnstiles.

The PA system needs updating

He’s also genuinely invested in improving the overall matchday experience, including things like the 50/50 tickets and other touches that help bring the club closer to the fans.

I’m not a happy clapper by any stretch, but I don’t think it’s fair when criticism is thrown around by those who aren’t aware of what’s actually happening behind the scenes. There’s a lot of positive work being done, and I think it deserves recognition.

The times I dealt with him in the club shop I found him to be really helpful. I would also imagine he was instrumental in organising the fan days during the euros. A novel idea to generate the club some revenue, at a time where gate receipts are zero.

Unfortunately, the kit is one of the bigger commercial income streams the club has. Making such a mess of something that should be straightforward, and which brings in a sizable chunk of revenue, ultimately falls at the feet of the commercial department.

This isn’t just a minor hiccup, it`s a major failure in planning and communication. I would hope there are serious discussions taking place between the board and those responsible to ensure this sort of shambles doesn’t happen again.

At the very least, supporters deserve transparency, accountability and clear measures in place to improve for next year. Once again, the fans are left frustrated and the club looks amateurish.

I don`t think CammyPar is voicing his opinion at all. That`s ChatGPT that`s written that. Everything CammyPar posts has been through some kind of AI generator. I`m not really sure if he`s a real person or just some kind of Bot that the site uses to generate posts

CammyPar The job is available, since you know everything there is to know about planning and organising an event in conditions that are ever changing and some you have no control over, why don`t you apply? It would appear that you have all the qualifications and capability to always succeed where other mere mortals fail.

You have me, I have no opinion on any topic and just gather my views with AI. Just because someone disagrees doesn’t mean they’ve handed their brain over to AI. What a daft conclusion to arrive at just because someone is expecting better from a guy who`s responsible for doing a straight forward kit launch.

We`re all here for opinions, debate, and a bit of back and forth, if someone needs to throw out the “must be AI” card every time they read something they don’t like, maybe forums aren`t for you.
