82. Author: DBA Date: Wed 23rd Jul 2025. 00:50 I think folk need to remember that goal difference only comes into it if we`re joint on points. I`m pretty sure at least 2 of the 8 groups will finish with second place on lower than 9 points, possibly 3. They are therefore irrelevant if we win on Saturday We`re then in a shootout of around 3 of 6 teams going through. We`ve got a chance. We were in a section with (arguably) the best team in this stage of the competition. If wr go out on goal difference, it`s disappointing but we`ve done okay! Reply |
83. Author: Berry Date: Wed 23rd Jul 2025. 05:33 Just watched the goals. Thankfully we have no VAR for the first one, don’t think it would’ve counted based on the position Cooper put the ball for the corner. Aside from that though, cracking leap from J Tod and a good finish. The equaliser looked easily avoidable, was a really nice pass, J Tod should’ve done better though, perhaps experience but the ball was there to be won and would’ve with a bit of aggression. Perhaps worried about being sent off. Good lesson to hopefully learn before the season starts. The winner came from Mullen really with his work ethic, fortunate that it led to an own goal. Honestly can’t remember him misplacing a pass. Everything was neat, tidy, and always wanted to go forward. He really set the tempo. What stood out most for me though was the desire to win the ball back from most of the team. It really was night and day from last year when we were far too passive without the ball. John Tod didn’t look out of place at all. The more minutes he gets, the more comfortable he looks. Composed and didn’t try to overplay it. Encouraging signs and excited to see how he grows with more games he plays. Andy Tod on the other hand was a bit frustrating. A couple of slack passes under zero pressure, then started going down easy looking for soft fouls. Took his goal well right enough, looked like something worked on at training. Mullen was poor defensively . A few basic errors and just didn’t look at it. It`s not like him at all based on last season. Hopefully just getting back into it but he did well for the second goal. Biggest concern by far is losing Kane. When he went off it totally exposed how limited we are up top. Desperate need to bring someone in there or it’ll cost us sooner rather than later. I also thought triple sub absolutely killed us. Completely lost our shape and any team with a bit more quality punishes us for that. One to learn from. Overall? Bit of a meh performance but it’s a win and we move on to Saturday. c'mon the pars Reply |
85. Author: Berkey Date: Wed 23rd Jul 2025. 10:59 Feels about right cammy. Hamilton under a transfer embargo and have lost a fair few first team players so although it was a tougher game it was clearly a level down for the opposition we’ll be playing every week so still feels like work to do. I know it’s about getting the right players in and we have to be patient but not convinced the team or performance last night would have won many games in the championship but we’ll soon see. Roll on more new faces…. The post below replying to me is by one of .nets finest champions of mediocrity! Reply |

87. Author: cammypar 1995 Date: Wed 23rd Jul 2025. 11:08 I do think this year is night and day compared to the side that limped over the line at the end of last season. The intent to get on the front foot and win it back high was there and it made a difference. Like i said earlier though, once that triple change happened, we totally lost our shape and looked miles off it. That kind of collapse in such a short spell is a bit of a concern. Still, you can see there’s a decent base to work with, and with a few smart additions in the right areas, there’s definitely potential. Just felt a bit flat overall, but early days and I`ll happily reserve full judgement until the window shuts. Encouraging signs, but the next couple of weeks have to be active. c'mon the pars Reply |
88. Author: wee eck Date: Wed 23rd Jul 2025. 11:18 I`m not sure what folk were expecting. Were they really expecting that, after three competitive games, we would have a settled team, playing consistently and demonstrating they would be challenging for promotion? What I have seen is a team that moves the ball more quickly than last season with a preferred formation which will set the basic platform going forward. New players like Gilmour, Amade and Kearney have improved the overall quality of the squad and are key to the way NL wants to play. We have unearthed a potential gem in John Tod. Other players like Andrew Tod and Josh Cooper have raised their games and hopefully will improve their consistency. At this time of the season the manager has to balance the objectives of achieving a consistent rhythm to our play that gets results against the need to get as many players as possible match fit. I think that was the main reason for the deterioration in performance last night. On Saturday we may see a more pragmatic and consistent team selection as we need to score a few goals to progress and this may take priority over fitness. Reply |
89. Author: king lad Date: Wed 23rd Jul 2025. 11:31 I thought we were the better team for most of the first half and were in relative control, although Hamilton looked dangerous on the counter before Tod scored his goal. Second half, the team looked a bit more fatigued, especially in the attacking phases and I thought to their credit Hamilton played some decent football. Without doubt we look weak in the striker position when Kane goes off and there`s obviously something going on at the moment with Connor Young. Taylor Sutherland is presumably close to a loan move away too Reply |

95. Author: Par Date: Thu 24th Jul 2025. 15:13 Ok, that`s unusual, normally you get the fold out fixure one that covers both matches. Hopefully the fold out one will be for the first league game or there`s going to be a bare patch on my wall at work. Reply |

97. Author: Buster_Brown Date: Thu 24th Jul 2025. 17:32 Parca_Par, Thu 24 Jul 16:20 I’ll put my hand up and say I haven’t bought any for a few years now. Every time I go to have a look, it’s just the same stories from the website copied and pasted into a match day programme. There’s nothing exclusive and there’s nothing really original. Whatever happened to columns like ‘Beyond The Great Divide’?? In fact there’s a lot more that could be done to make it more attractive for people to buy. This isn’t a pop at anyone….i have no idea who put’s it together these days, it’s merely the reason that I have stopped buying it. Reply |
98. Author: jake89 Date: Thu 24th Jul 2025. 17:52 Print is a dying medium. Back in the day the match programme was a key way of communicating with fans along with newspaper articles. Now they can put stuff out on the website, Facebook, X, TikTok etc etc at the click of a button. Why wait potentially two weeks to share something when it could be published the same day? Just look at the Dunfermline Press where the weekly paper is just filled with stories you already read on the website. Reply |
