Our usual way of talking up youngsters is to suggest they go out on loan. For me John Tod has more pluses than minuses about his game and he`d be better improving his game with us than with a club in a lower league. NL must have seen loads of young players coming through during his career and he seems happy to play him just now. Like most young players he`ll probably be rested from tine to time.

Totally agree with Wee Eck here, think both Tod’s will be better off staying as part of the squad and given the space to continue to develop. If both show the consistent levels to be starters, then that’s what they should be.

I think Tod’s had a decent enough start, no doubt about it, but some of the shouts on here are getting a bit carried away. Let’s not forget Mullen has captained Scotland U21s. Even if he’s not hit top form yet this season I still think as of now he is better than Tod.

If Tod keeps developing the way he has, then he could turn into a real asset for us. But until we see him tested properly against Championship level players week in, week out, it’s hard to say for sure what his ceiling actually is but it won`t eb long until we see him at this level. I think the fact he has started the games he has probably indicates he will start v morton. Promising signs, but still early days.

For balance, I think Tod’s done alright so far. Let’s not forget the struggles we had against Forfar at home last season, so there’s clearly been some improvement.

That said, we do have a habit of talking up the youngsters a bit too much at times. Tod’s held his own so far but the real test will come when he’s up against experienced Championship players week in, week out. Personally, I don’t think he’s better than Mullen at this stage, even though Mullen hasn’t exactly looked convincing either so far this season.

Interesting comments, Cammy. You write that the real tests will come when they face experienced championship players, week in week out, yet when I suggest that we need experienced players in to help, you say we are doing fine?
Maybe I’ve misinterpreted your intentions, so please correct me if I’m wrong.

I’ve never once said we don’t need signings? I’ve just pointed out that not a single one of the players we’ve brought in so far were considered “experienced” or "marquee" when they signed, yet they’re already looking like really smart bits of business. It’s obvious we’re still a few bodies short, and I’ve not argued otherwise. For what it`s worth we could be doing with a gk LWB and a striker.

What I don’t get is folk getting their y fronts in a twist about so called “marquee signings.” We’ve been down that road before and it didn`t work.I think the current model has worked so far with Gilmour looking a brilliant bit of business.

Tod has done well but the test will be at league level to see if he can cope at this level.

How many games does Andy Tod have to score in to be called a striker?

I don`t care what position he`s supposed to play, I just want him in the team.
