The Old Firm can’t have it both ways. They hoover up the bulk of the cash in Scottish football, leaving scraps for everyone else, then moan about the “lack of competition” when they get bombed out in Europe by teams nobody’s heard of.

If you genuinely want competition, you need a level playing field, better distribution of TV money, prize money, youth development, the lot. They want the guaranteed domestic dominance and the cash that comes with it. Fine. But then don’t turn around and use the lack of competition as an excuse when you’re outclassed in Europe.

Truth is, in some of these so called “smaller” leagues the money’s spread around more evenly, so other clubs can actually develop. That makes them stronger in Europe. Meanwhile in Scotland, everything’s funnelled to two clubs, so nobody else grows, and the Old Firm stagnate the minute they step outside the Scottish football bubble.

Brugge have appeared in a European Cup final losing only by a single goal to the excellent Liverpool - hardly an unheard of club.

Have you heard of Kairat, Lincoln Red imps, Progres niederkorn, Artmedia bratislava Before they sent the old firm packing?

c'mon the pars

Still embarrassing results. The fact still remains that the old firm want their cake and eat it, but reality is catching up. They like the idea of proper competition domestically when they keep falling flat in Europe. Until they modernise properly and give the opportunities for domestic teams to mount some tough opposition , they’ll keep bottling it on the Champions League stage.

c'mon the pars

I hope Celtic go through for the sake of scotlands coefficient. Mainly because I want us to retain at least 5 European spots, ideally with less qualifying rounds. Might be beneficial for us in the future if we can get in the premier or to a cup final.

Three attempts in a few minutes by Engels hitting the first defender. Two corners and a free kick. Shocking.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Probably better for the coefficient that they drop to the Europa League and get some results there.

Oot - GET IT UP THEM!

Own fault for not strengthening this summer. Rodgers will be gone now, not been backed at all.
