Scotland`s record in our last 10 WC qualifiers is W8 D1 L1. That`s a remarkable stat which suggests Steve Clarke knows how to get results, but some fans expect him to change his approach. I don`t think he will. He puts a lot of faith in team spirit, familiarity with each other and the wiĺl to win at the expense of flair and unpredictability.

Except they were Dave, because Greece didn`t score a second goal, or am I missing something?

Let’s not beat around the bush here though - he knows how to get results sometimes. He has his fair share of bad results in big games.

Ukraine, Greece, Hungary to name a few.

The football can also be turgid to watch. That first half tonight was awful. The 2nd half wasn’t much better, but we got the rub of the green and took our 3 chances when they came.

He needs to alter his approach in certain games. He has shown he can change his set up formation wise, but the tactical approach needs to be improved if we really want to compete at a higher level.

The third was a gift that secured the points. The rest is all conjecture and hypotheticals on both sides. The points weren’t secured at 2-1 with 3 minutes to go.

It looks like he got `the rub of the green` in the last 10 qualifiers. I think where he struggles is with `tournament football` which is a completely different kind of competition. I think he admitted that after the Euros in Germany and we might see a different approach if we qualify for the WC.

We could go on with this ad infinitum Dave and life is too short. The fact that they only scored one goal in the game means that our two goals was enough to beat them. We didn`t require the third goal. All other theories are pure speculation. Our second goal won the game. No point in speculating what might have happened if we hadn`t scored the third. Two goals was enough to win the game because they only scored one.

Well that was a rollercoaster of emotions. Nights like tonight are why I`ll never stop watching football. There`s nothing like it. Great to get some luck as a Scotland fan.

It`s these games that frustrate me the most with Clarke. Greece looked the least dangerous after we scored. When we actually tried to play on the front foot it showed we were capable of beating them. Gunn`s save aside, which was a piece of brilliant individual skill from the Greek lad, they didn`t threaten and resorted to play acting - a sure sign they were getting frustrated. If only he would let us play like that for 90 mins. It just makes me feel that if we get to the finals, it will be a repeat of the Euros

Have to say game played out pretty much as expected it would do. Lessons learned from how open we were in the 3-0 battering earlier in the year so shaped up defensivley. We were hanging on a bit before they opening the scoring and lost shape a bit with the couple of subs made not long before it but getting level so quickly and took the chances that we did create (or were presented).

As PUP alludes to, Clarke was asked prior to the game why we lost to them last time. He said that we were “too open” and “it suited them more than us” It was absolutely no surprise to me how we played after hearing that.
We got the points, thankfully, or Clarke would have got slaughtered.

Think if we had lost last night Clarke would have gotten his jotters at the end of qualifying campaign. The crowd were in their backs for 65 minutes last night, but as Robbo said thats fine but now enjoy the win as footballs 90 minutes long not 60.

I’ve watched Scotland for over 60 years. I’ve stood and watched us batter teams, only to lose and bemoan our luck.
Nice to get the rub tonight.

We’d never out play that Greece team. Last time we tried that played us off the park and beat us 3-0. This time we decided to be conservative frustrate them. It worked perfectly. Greece changes something at half time and we had to react to it but we did and ended up beating them.

Remember when we were always second best? We never qualified for anything and always got a pat on the back for our performance but in the end we always got beat?
I’d take last night over that - all day, every day. Folk keep talking about performances not being good enough and all the rest of it 🤷🏻‍♂️ we’ve got 7 points from a possible 9 and that includes a draw in Copenhagen. As things stand - we really couldn’t have done much better.

Agreed. Always thought that England, in particular, could play absolute dugshit in a game, but they always seemed to end up winning. Nice to see us do it, for a change.

I`m really struggling to figure out why you took offence at what was obviously a play on words.
Apologies if I missed something obvious.
