Topic: Lennon no Poppy

I’m a veteran with twenty two years service and till recently I always wore a poppy with pride. I still donate to Poppy Scotland but over the past ten or twelve years I’ve not felt comfortable with The Royal British Legion who seem to have morphed from a friendly place for veterans to go and be with others with similar experiences into, something not quite so universal. Poppies are becoming tainted with the same populism as Union Flags.

Media always need something to keep their viewing/ reading figures up, hence front page on papers such as Daily Record having something concerning OF as headlines, instead of real news.

Today`s narrative is that Lennons lining up a return to Celtic when Rodgers departs, never really saw him on telly yesterday but read him and Sutton weren`t on the same page.

This of course is building up to the clash of the ugly sisters next weekend!🤔

I really don’t believe NL needs that sort of crap in his life anymore and I’m sure his family don’t either. I reckon Scott Brown would be more likely than NL.

I can`t believe this thread and the point of the OP.

OMG I haven`t worn a poppy this year yet !!

ok calm down, I will likely were one a day or two before November the 11th so no need to chastise anyone for not wearing one or not wearing one yet !

I wear a Poppy every year as I once attended an Armistice Service at the Menin Gate in Ypres, a very moving experience I will never forget.

This is a daft thread. An unnecessary thread. We wear (or we don`t wear) poppies in honour of those who sacrificed so that we could choose to wear a poppy or not. Of course, it`s complicated by the actions of the British state in particular situations, conflicts and wars. This is particularly true in Ireland. However, the first sentence holds. It`s nothing to do with the Pars or our manager.

Why even start the thread? I hate the whole poppy debate. It’s right up there with the flag debate. It’s all bollocks.

Folk should be free to wear/not wear the poppy as they see fit, without any pressure or criticism from others.

While I have every respect for those who have lost their lives in defending their country, I don`t wear a poppy because only a tiny %age of the money collected actually goes to the families of those who lost their lives.

Depends on where you buy poppies from, many give all to veterans, i go to ypres often, very sad that lots of ww1 stuff in shop windows, including poppies does not go to forces societies

When I buy a poppy every year, I do so to reflect on the sacrifices made by others to permit the freedoms I have today. There were many nations who fought in those conflicts from every corner of the globe.

People may buy them for other reasons but that`s my personal reason.

I do wear a poppy each year but it’s in remembrance of the sacrifice ordinary people went through in the two World Wars.
People subscripted with limited training in combat.
I kind of resent my money now going towards warfare I don’t agree with but as long as veterans are still alive I’ll wear a poppy each year.

Brave people fought and died for freedom.

Freedom of choice.

Choice to wear a poppy or not.

Where can you buy the Pars poppy? Just in the club shop?

For what it`s worth, no-one should care who wears a poppy or not.
