Topic: Never write off players!

Step back a few months, and most, or at least a lot of, fans were thinking that Deniz Mehmet, Kieran Ngwenya, Chris Hamilton and Matty Todd had no future with DAFC and would soon be looking for a new club.

Yet, all four were integral parts of today`s team, that produced the Pars` best result for many years.

Great management team, the coaches are an integral part of the decision making. The spotlight for me is on Caceres, will he step up and prove he has what it takes?

Deniz was outstanding today as far as being a presence in the box and nobody can slag him off outside of his traditional kicking out the park.
Matty Todd?
What can you say?
He was my MOM for his passion and ability to get balls into the box and looking for that pass.
I’m so proud he’s turned his career around when he might have been out the door.

I`ve said it before, but we should absolutely keep Deniz, especially with a young keeper on the books. McPake`s comments after the game confirmed what an asset he is on the training ground as well a pitch. Also loved Lennon`s dig at the Germans with McPakes approval

What did Lennon say about the Germans with McPake’s approval?

They way these players have remained committed and broken back into the team is probably the biggest testament to what NL is achieving as a manager with the Pars.

Hammy and Matty Todd is one thing, but Deniz and Kieran could just be picking up a wage check and looking for a new club, but they`ve both knuckled down. Kieran is like a completely new player. He`s gone from being a bombscare to a rock solid monster of a defender. It`s amazing.

Lennon said that the owner is backing him to build the club like it should be built, while McPake didn`t get that support from the previous owners.

Part of the interview in the last 5 minutes of the BBC coverage.

I thought that was nice of Lennon to say publicly. Might put McPake in a better light if he wanted to go back into management.

Still think his style of play was a massive problem though.

I don`t necessarily think that NL did not have these players in his plans. I think the conversation was more around do you want to play for this club, do you want to play first team football, do you want to improve as a player. It`s a yes/no answer and only offers two paths, stay, work hard, improve your game or move on to another club. You reap what you sow ar the end of the day. It puts the responsibility onto the player for their own careers. It`s just good management, as you know exactly where you stand.

Denis was always a good shot stopper, it was his “Dracula” complex that let him down.

He now appears to have overcome his fear of crosses.

With a squad of 25/26, even allowing for the possibility of having 9 on the bench and a few injuries, simple arithmetic dictates that some are going to miss out. It doesn`t necessarily mean the manager doesn`t rate you as we have seen with the return of Mehmet, Todd and Ngwenya. What must make it more difficult for those `fringe` players though is the fact that we have no regular competitive `reserve` fixtures to maintain or regain match fitness or recover form. Being a professional footballer with no regular competitive action must be very frustrating.

I blame the water too, Dandy, for typing in Stewart (as in Barney) for new lad and fast-as-a-whippet Thomas!

I have never written off Matty Todd. His loss of
form was down to the injuries he got. I always
knew once he was over his last injury he would begin to
play a major role for us, and he has, big style.

I like the management approach.

They’re setting the bar high. The expectation is you consistently get to the bar or they look elsewhere within the squad. No one is excluded, no one is written off.

It’s giving players responsibility for their own development. That’s good man management.
