Seriously, wtf is it with people trying to justify any sort of racist abuse?
I understand sledging in sport, and I understand the banter that takes place on and off the field.
But, and some of you need to read this carefully a few times, any form of racism is racism. Racial abuse is racism. Racial banter is racism. Unintended racial comments are racist. Playful racism is racism. Racial comments designed to put someone off their game is racism.
The same goes for all other prejudicial action.
There isn`t a place for any of it any more.
Please don`t try and justify it by saying we are all 99.9% the same, or it isn`t meant maliciously, or it`s only banter, or it`s part of the game.
It`s wrong. It isn`t acceptable in any form. This isn`t open to discussion any more. This is 2026, and there is no acceptable racism, intentional or not.

^^^ That comes across as quite a patronising post, Bouncy. Literally, nobody, least of all me, is trying to defend or justify racism. It is loathsome and I agree there`s no place for it in this day and age. My comment that we are all the same (below the skin) wasn`t an attempt to justify racism or racial abuse. Rather, it`s a criticism of those who look for minute details to exaggerate the differences in people born in different parts of the world. I said there`s only one race - the human race - and I firmly believe that. I also said that anyone found guilty of making a racist slur, should be hammered, whether it was intended as such or not.

Gg - Read your previous comments on this post. You (and you aren`t alone) may not have meant to, but you have come across poorly in this thread. Your comments could easily be interpreted as justifying the abuse as an attempt to put the player off his game, rather than explicit racial hatred.
There can be no justification in this type of abuse.
I read that you continue to claim that you are against it, however each of your posts go on to offer several situations or reasons why it may be acceptable, it`s sledging, the person may not be aware, there`s only 1 race.
It is wrong, that`s all that needs to be said. If we call it out, it`ll eventually stop. If we make excuses and allowances , it`ll continue.

Gee, how did we get to this point? Maybe I should have taken Berry`s wise advice yesterday and bowed out, but I`m a stubborn kind of guy when I`m convinced I`m in the right and my views have been misinterpreted. Maybe that`s my fault for not making my comments completely unambiguous, but you can`t always guess how those reading your posts will interpret them.

This all kicked off when I posted, "I wouldn`t say that every player who makes a racist comment is necessarily racist, but they leave themselves open to the charge." I`ve highlighted the key word in that sentence. I didn`t quantify it in any way, so that number could be extremely tiny or even 0. I`d never heard the term "sledging" before red star used it on this thread, but that`s exactly what I was on about. It`s a very extreme form of cheating in sport that unscrupulous players will use to gain an advantage. For them, the end justifies the means. For fellow posters to claim that I was using this as an argument to justify racist abuse or render it acceptable is very judgemental and well wide of the mark.

How many of us have howled in anger and frustration when the Pars are a goal down in
the closing minutes and an opposing player goes down in a heap and the ref waves the team doctor on? Maybe 99% of the time, it`s a ploy to waste another few minutes to eke out the win, but very rarely, the player in question is genuinely injured, yet none of us even considered the possibility.

As for my contention that "we`re all the same (beneath the skin)" being another attempt to excuse racist abuse, wow! I was pointing out that the physical differences among humans from all over the globe are so trivial that it`s quite bizarre that some moronic individuals want to highlight with their ignorant views.

I hope that has clarified my views and regret any upset caused to other posters.
