Is it time to recognise we are no better and take steps to sort our own house out. Keep the rivalry but bury the vitriol.` Not even mildly similar scenes have been seen at either East End or TFS as those at Ibrox yesterday so yes I would say we are quite a big bit better than both sets of they supporters. | 22. Author: Sacktheref69 Date: Mon 9th Mar 2026. 16:52 It honestly felt like the weekend showed the worst side of the Scottish game again. Old Firm matches are always tense, everyone knows that, but yesterday looked like one of those situations where the warning signs were there and nothing was really done about them until it had already kicked off. A bigger away allocation for the first time and they play the full version of Simply the Best just to turn it into the usual sectarian nonsense that comes with these two. When that first lot of Rangers fans ran onto the pitch and were watched by police, it pretty much set the tone for the rest of the antics. That should’ve been the moment where things got tightened up, not something that was brushed off until more people followed. From the clips going around online, the police response looked more reactive than proactive. By the time people were getting onto the pitch and then things started spilling out onto the streets of Glasgow afterwards, it was already out of control. When you leave that window open, the ones looking for trouble will take it every time. At the same time though, it’s only fair to admit we’re not exactly in a great position to lecture anyone about fan behaviour. On Saturday all three goals had fans running onto the pitch (the first two especially were completely unnecessary). It wasn’t a last minute winner or anything like that although that doesn`t make it acceptable. Seeing stewards getting knocked over in the process just makes it worse, because that’s exactly the sort of thing that ends up with clubs getting fines, bans, or reduced allocations. It’s the wider support that ends up paying for it. The whole “ultra” scene seems to be creeping back in as well. In theory it’s meant to be about atmosphere, banners, and organised support which pitch invasions aside the North West did that. But a lot of what we’re seeing now just looks like wee guys in balaclavas trying to act hard. It’s not even just a Glasgow thing either, you’re seeing similar scenes popping up all over the country. The frustrating part is that the basic idea shouldn’t be difficult. The stands are for the fans. The pitch is for the players and the officials. It really should be as simple as that. This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it. Reply |
| 23. Author: SeasonedPar Date: Mon 9th Mar 2026. 17:14 I’d agree with a lot of your comments, Sacktheref69. It’s hard to blame the police or the stewards. If they stopped the bams getting on the pitch, there might’ve been another Hillsborough situation. Damned if you do, etc. What’s for sure is, everyone’s talking about the nonsense and sectarian singing (aye, and me and again), but it doesn’t spoil our result. I’m sure it’s the same for Falkirk and St Mirren fans. Also, allowing away fans was, on hindsight, a mistake. I’d ban them from attending all their games home and away for a year, making both clubs pay back lost revenue to the clubs they play. That might just make both clubs take action - and might actually make those games a better atmosphere without their toxic songs and entitlement. Reply |

Author: SusieQ Date: Mon 9th Mar 2026. 18:13 PARrot, Mon 9 Mar 15:35 I`ve never seen our fans or Falkirk fans run the length of the park in gimp masks to chuck flares or whatever into the opposition stand. Yes we`ve had a few unsavoury moments but it`s mainly a few idiots chucking stuff on the park. A bit of boisterous celebrating is fine but again, our lads do tend to just go back into the stand. They don`t go chasing players for selfies or indulge in the aforementioned flare chucking at the opposition support. COME ON YE PARS! Reply |
| 25. Author: AdamAntsParsStripe Date: Mon 9th Mar 2026. 18:32 Police should have made sure before the game to speak to Celtic and get their players off the park immediately should they win and allow them back on once Rangers fans dispersed. It was always going to happen if Celtic were to win the game. Next game should be either without away fans or a closed door match. Zwei Pints Bier und ein Päckchen Chips bitte ![]() Reply |
| 26. Author: dafc Date: Mon 9th Mar 2026. 18:51 Unfortunately won’t happen. Nothing much will. Hibs rangers final had way more violence and very little happened. Should be Celtic out cup and both teams banned for 2 years. Old firm next season all games behind closed doors, again it was a minority of 200 each that caused most of the mayhem and vandalism yesterday. Reply |
| 27. Author: thebear Date: Tue 10th Mar 2026. 00:34 Sadly sfa, will do minimal stuff, both teams will say its a minority don`t blame us and scottish government stick its head up it`s backside. Sadly we are almost condoning it by our response. Reply |
| 28. Author: GG Riva Date: Tue 10th Mar 2026. 06:15 I just got round to watching the BBC highlights of the game. I was actually more interested in seeing the aftermatch scenes than the game itself, so I was quite disappointed to hear Dougie Donnelly explain that the BBC couldn`t show the scenes because of the ongoing police investigation. Maybe I`m being a bit thick here, but how does showing the unacceptable behaviour of some idiot fans on the pitch prejudice the case against them? Surely the general public could help the police by identifying the troublemakers? I remember the BBC programme "Crimewatch" which did exactly that. There was one guy who famously held up a building society and smiled at the camera before leaving with a bag full of banknotes. The presenter told us at the end of the programme that a viewer had called in and supplied the police with the robber`s name and address so they`d nipped round to his house and arrested him. 😀 ![]() Not your average Sunday League player. When looking at the people and behaviour I had shown my wife and said, if that was me, I would be embarrassed to show my face and what would my friends think of me. Her reply; they will all be the same mutants and it is considered acceptable. These are not young people. The Celtic fans are clearly goading the remaining Rangers fans and getting a rise from their responses. Why not just leave and offer no responses. These people are the thickest of humanity and it shows how concerned we should be as they were not youngsters either. Also , if you watch the aftermath of the Hampden riot the interviews from then till now are earily similar of “who is to blame” Reply |
| 30. Author: NMCmassive Date: Tue 10th Mar 2026. 22:06 I think what they’ll do is fine both clubs for Sunday. They’ll make the old firm matches home fans only and then they’ll tar every fan in Scotland with the same brush, blame alcohol and double down on alcohol sales bans for Peterhead at home to Stenny… COYP Reply |
| 31. Author: Jock Par36 Date: Tue 10th Mar 2026. 22:19 They should make all Celtic and Rangers games be played behind closed doors for a full season as a punishment. Reply |
| 32. Author: AdamAntsParsStripe Date: Tue 10th Mar 2026. 23:07 Used to be a time when fans policed ourselves to stop recriminations happening. I’ve long thought that any decent Rangers or Celtic fans would be dealing with the ultras in their stadiums. Zwei Pints Bier und ein Päckchen Chips bitte ![]() Reply |
| 33. Author: OzPar Date: Wed 11th Mar 2026. 04:49 They should ban them both from the cup next year, increase the size of the Scottish Premier League to 16 teams, thus reducing to 2 Old Firm games a season, and, of course, play those games behind closed doors. There, FIXED IT! :) Reply |
| 34. Author: parsmad68 Date: Wed 11th Mar 2026. 06:50 I am interested to know how much will be decided inside and outside of football corridors of power. The police may have more power in these discussions, but the ultimate judge is going to be the politicians if the footballing responses are not strong enough. Personally I would say a 1 match ban for supporters in either stadium is a reasonable response given the level of incursion to the pitch and hefty fines for both. The sanctions have to be a warning for future conduct with a visible scale of future impacts for further incursions. Reply |

Author: veteraneastender Date: Wed 11th Mar 2026. 09:35 AdamAntsParsStripe, Tue 10 Mar 23:07 Not with Celtic and Rangers fans in my long experience - they have a very long track record of disorder - Roy Barry couldn’t parade the cup 1968 due to previous trouble at a Hampden by OF fans. Celtic fans caused trouble on the terracing at Hampden during the 1961 replay - and they invaded the pitch (from both ends) the following season at Ibrox as St.Mirren were winning 4-0 in a cup semi. Rangers fans have a bad history likewise. Post Edited (Wed 11 Mar 09:43) Reply |
| 36. Author: jake89 Date: Wed 11th Mar 2026. 10:50 veteraneastender, Mon 9 Mar 15:50 Are you thinking they could still make second mass if they`re quick? 😂 I`m being facetious. None of these guys who follow Rangers/Celtic on religious grounds actually attend religious ceremonies regularly. Certainly not the GROWN MAN screaming "BOOOOOO!" at Celtic players going up the tunnel. I really hope he`s not some poor kids dad. Reply |

Saturday evening vigil is common in many parishes and Sunday early evening likewise - no problem to those so inclined. Post Edited (Wed 11 Mar 12:12) Reply |
