Not sure how accurate salary sport is as it listed Josh Edward receiving £3100 a week. Wigan I suspect won’t be paying this much for a 21 year old.

I think you`d be shocked by the wages down there even at league 1 level, the average wage is roughly £4k per week. Given the competition around JCM, I imagine he`ll be getting a decent package

An old army colleague of mine comes from and supports wigan. Follows them home and away.
He messaged me earlier for a chat about jcm.
He said Wigan are basically skint and wouldn`t be offering that big wages.
I said even so probably more than us
He`s probably a replacement for Jason Kerr who has joined hibs.
He also said that at the moment they develop young players and try to sell them on.
Apparently they have sold their last sellable assett a goalkeeper called Sam tickle to Bristol city for an undisclosed fee.

Apparently he prefers his official name of Mr Tickle

I think it’s a good signing for a team who are looking to develop and sell.

He’s got 22 Under-21 caps for Scotland and 2 seasons of first team experience, including a fb to a cup final (as captain for a lot of those games). He was also in the PFA team of the year this season. If I was a Wigan fan I’d be more than happy at this signing. If he has a good season there he’ll potentially be off again for £1 million plus, such is the English market.

As for Mullen, I’ve always felt he’s not really wanted to be here beyond his original loan. Guys like Fraser, Abdulai, Gilmour post a lot of pars related stuff online and seem happy to be at the club, whereas Mullen isn’t part of preseason and there is no announcement from the club or player about him leaving.

Wish him all the best though and hope he continues to develop, because Scotland don’t have many good CB’s coming through and he’s one of the most capped u-21’s we have!

Reported in the Dunfermline Press he is linked with a move south. I wish him all the best in his future career.

Had no idea he had fractured his back - always just thought he was the slouchiest player I`d ever seen and could be a good 3 or 4 inches taller! Fair play to him though for coming back from that!

That was the deal. We took a chance on him because of his medical history, when others clubs were wary. In return, he would leave on a free.
Win, win.

Does that not represent a double win for JCM?

It was inevitable he would be moving on, good on the lad. He certainly has the profile to go far in the game.

I could never understand why he was given the armband in the first instance. As you have said already he wasn’t exactly going out his way to talk the club up. I wish him well but time to move on now its clear he’s gone.

JCM is a great player and helped us to our first scottish cup final in nearly twenty years, with 3 clean sheets to SPL sides along the way. To suggest he`s not a big loss is wild logic.

Just as an alternate opinion on JCM`s feelings on playing for us - there was a video on the Pars` social media towards the end of 2025, where the players were picking their best moment of the year, Tod picked his hat-trick against Arbroath, McLeod picked his goal against St J etc. When they asked Mullen for his highlight of 2025 he said "singing for the Pars".

I suspect its just his nature. We are all different. The yardstick I would use is where he may have lacked committment. I never saw that in games. He has moved on for his career. He came up here to kick start his career and fair play to him. He is probably much closer to home, earning more, and looking to develop into a full international player. He needs to play against better teams and will undoubtedly do that down South. With a different league structure where we can play against premiership sides, we would have a much better chance of holding on to players like him.

Wigan is a new challenge and will offer a bit more exposure. It won`t be easy down there but another move might come for him quickly if he does well. He`s been brilliant for us. I wish him well.

Hopefully he gets Scotland call ups soon as we could do with fresh centre backs coming through.

Confirmed as signing for Wigan on a 2 year deal with the option of another year. Interestingly Wigan say they paid us an undisclosed fee which must be compensation for us developing him. Good luck JCM!

Could this be why we got a fee?

`SPFL (Scotland): Clubs are entitled to a "Development Contribution" for players registered with them prior to their 23rd birthday, ensuring the training club is compensated even if the player leaves on a free transfer`.

Yes, from what I`ve read up it basically protects the club from losing him for free and it`s easier than going to a tribunal where neither club may get what they want. Hopefully there is some sort of sell on clause and half decent initial fee
