I know this post is going to be very unpopular on here .. But is it just me or has the activity in the transfer market so far been really under whelming . Will be the same story with some fans the season hasn’t started give the boys a chance etc etc etc . IMO this is not a title winning squad we have. John Tod is miles off it at this level and can’t be a first team starter he’s the sort of player who needs loan time in Div 2 . Kane /Rudden injured 50% of the time .
Leaves us Shaw . This is a really weak squad . After the Scottish cup run I had hoped Lennon would be heavily backed with cash to spend it seems that isn’t the case . Kind of the same story as the Germans really . Another almost /what could have been season ahead .

Yes get a grip. Yes season hasn’t started , heard it all before . We should be fighting to be number 1 not just play off spots .

Reality check ?! Why last few teams to win this league have splashed the cash and signed proven players at this level or higher . We simply aren’t doing this .
We have the fan base we have Scottish cup money why aren’t we going for it all out with signings to win the league . It’s proven if your willing to sign good players the league is there to be won .

Not so much a `glass half empty` chap but a ` glass barely wet` guy I`m guessing?

I don’t understand your point about the strikers. We have Cooper, Andrew Tod, Calumn Morrison and young Fyfe etc
Plenty of options up top.

I do agree wholeheartedly we should be going after the title from day one though.
Being runners up is notoriously difficult in getting to the Premier League as Partick know so well.

Whilst I understand the sentiment, hopefully it`s wrong.

However a concern i have, not really a concern is that so many players have left over the closed season, so we are now not paying their wages, we may have brought some players back from loans so will pick up their wages again. I dont think we sold any, but must have bought 2 or 3. So what is the net wage balance of ins against outs, we must be considerably in credit, enlighten me politely lol

Three of the five signings we have made have played in the Scottish Premiership. The other two have been signed from a league NL knows well from which we have already signed Kearney and Morrison who have done OK but may improve.

John Tod is far better than League 2 and Rudden was unfortunate to pick up two separate contact injuries last season. He could just as easily have an injury-free season this time round. As AAPS says we have more striking options than you mention and Kane can make an effective contribution despite his recurrent injury issue.

And there`s probably more to come. After Saturday`s friendly NL said we had lost 10 players from last season.

We have lost JCM, Ngwenya and Matty Todd. Not due to money but ambition to play at a higher level.

Our owners are doing everything they can to make us better, but being a Championship Scottish club makes attracting players pretty difficult. I`m not getting colly wobbles about our signings but I`m pleased with what we have signed for this league. The views from the new guys previous clubs fans online are in the majority positive.

I`m more excited about the young players from last year like Bray, Tod brothers and Kearney taking it up a level this year. We invested last year on young talent that has now had considerable games time, so lets see what they do this year. A bit of pressure on them to show continueus improvement.

Lets not forget we have (in my opinion) the best manager in the league, that gets a lot out of his squad.

I`m confident we will be in top three minimum this season.

Obviously, we need more players to compete for promotion. And soon.

Very often, the winners of the Championship get off to a good start and build a lead that is hard for others to break down. My concern is that we leave our signings too late while other contenders—like Partick, Inverness, Ayr and the Rovers— already seem to be nearer their objectives for a settled squad.

I suspect the owners, the manager, the players and the fans share the same belief that this season is crucial. It has to be a turning point for our club. We must achieve sustainability. There can only be one objective—PROMOTION.

Yes, this discussion happens every year, but let`s look at the facts. This is from a review of COWS news archive, please do comment if something is missing.

Summer signings by 8th July 2025:

1. Charlie Gilmour
2. Keith Bray
3. Alfons Amade

- Plus extensions for JCM, Cooper, TOB

- Various young boys

(three players - Kearney, Donaldson, McLeod - were signed on 11th July, the same day that we launched the new home kit)

Summer signings by 8th July 2026:

1. Kian Corbally
2. Oli Shaw
3. Sam Cleall-Harding
4. Luke Robinson
5. Musa Dibaga

- Extensions for Chris Kane, Lucas Fyfe, Davidson

- Various young boys

Looks to me that our we have done more first team squad business at this point than we had last year.

We have been in this league long enough to see what it takes to win the league. We have a history of taking our time with signings, by that time we are out the league cup and off to a slow start in the league. Often stating we aimed too high for our targets. I hope history isn`t repeating again as we have seen this picture too often in recent times.

I think we probably still have a fair bit of business to do, in and out.

I`m happy with the signings we have made but don`t think it`s a title challenging squad just yet. It`s maybe not been the `big push in the summer` we might have hoped for given the extra income last season?

I`d say from how far ahead Partick were last season, and the business they have done, that they are strong favourites. Livi are an unknown to me.

Happy with the business we’ve done to date, Oli Shaw in particular is the kind of player we’ve been shouting for up front so to have him to complement our existing attacking threat is positive.

Don’t know much about the other signings but majority of what I’ve read from previous teams fans have been very positive so it’s all looking good.

I do agree on J Tod though, I don’t think he’s ready and would like to see another central defender in with experience to help SCH - we ofcourse have Abdulai but think we need another one.

I am not personally underwhelmed TBH. As others have said the players you are going to attract to the championship are players who are developing with ambition to play at a higher level, or premiership players in the twilight of their career. The players who have come in fit the former as far as I can see, so its about the management team getting the best out of them. NL and the team have demonstrated that they can do that, evidenced by our top four finish and reaching the scottish cup final. Ollyv Shaw doesnt fit the mould but we need a bit of experoence along side the likes of Lucas Fyfe along with others who I see making their breakthrough this year. Its not only about the best players but more importantly about building the best team. The best players dont necessarily make the best team. I think personally in terms of the squad, we are in a better position this season at this stage than last. Watching the team at Kelty. I was impressed with the players condition and levels of fitness that I didnt think was there last year. Budgets are one thing, working with and developing people, building morale, working together as a team is another. These are the intangibles that cant be determined from a financial spreadsheet.

The squad is a lot stronger than it was a year ago, should be more than enough there to get 3 wins against EK, Dumbarton & Cove which will get us through the league cup group.

Still plenty of time to add to it. One more keeper, Ox would be ideal. Another defender, and 2/3 in midfield. Plenty of strikers, too many, at least a couple need to leave. Young will probably go, then at least 2 of Sutherland, Mcleod & Fyfe out on loan somewhere.

It is a young squad as well, a lot of potential for growth. Livi have a pretty strong looking squad which isn`t surprising, otherwise I don`t see any other team with a stronger squad in terms of numbers or quality at the moment.

Excited would be a better subject in my opinion.

Glad we’ve avoided the usual Scottish championship player merry go round. I think we have on the face of it recruited well with several more to come.

I think we will challenge Livi, Partick look weaker to me and would be surprised to see them run away with the league.
